Your welcome!!
As any game organiser will tell you, you literally spend months worrying about every little detail and when game day comes around you just have to let everything unfold and hope it all works out right. From your comments, both here and yesterday, my worrying paid off. Like I said afterwards, it’s not me you should be thanking but each other. I gave you the tools for the job and you all rose to the challenge; you all threw yourselves into this game with a fervour I haven’t seen at a game before. Neither side gave up territory without a supreme fight but the fighting was always fair. I applaud you all.
I have to express thanks to the following people (in no particular order)
Helen at MAGNUM Footwear for the raffle prizes (2 pairs of Elite boots each worth £85)
Paul, Thomas and the crew at Battlezone for making the journey down and the raffle prizes (Grill goggles and sweatshirt)
Tim and Trevor at H-Pac – excellent service as ever.
LIPS - for the trophies, especially as the courier decided to break one of them and Chris had to send out a replacement ASAP!
Dan and Claire of Bullswood Skirmish. They took a leap of faith letting us use the site but they were impressed by the way things went. (Even if Dan’s neighbours complained about the air horn – imagine what would of happened with flashbangs??)
The Marshals at Bullswood – above and beyond all day! I don’t think I’ve been to a game where the marshals get a bigger cheer than the winning side!! Special thanks go to Dave for, quite literally, throwing himself into the action under some heavy fire especially on the Wild West/Brighton field; and Chris for the constant offers of help in the safe zone (not to mention the cups of tea). I was privileged to be on the radio net with the marshals and the support they gave each other via the radios as to where teams were moving to and from so they were prepared for the firefights was excellent. They also kept informing each other of flag changes so they knew where to send the players to for the quickest reinsertions. (and to hear a marshal give up a coffee break so he could stay and see how a piece of action would unfold must be a first).
To my fellow Geese for their support and help. Without a lot of hard work in a 2 hour period on the Saturday, the game never would have got off the ground. (and without even more hard work Sunday night I wouldn’t have been able to have a lie in today, cheers chaps ).
Witzy – thank you for taking on the role and masterminding a well deserved victory. You also played with an immense amount of fair play and pulled your players back on at least 2 occasions so that the Rockers could reinsert. Must say though that the sight of you and about 20 other Mods running and diving for cover when the Geese came at you was a sight to behold and something that will stay with me forever – now I know why the Mods had targets on their back; gave the guys something to zero in on.
Woody – For a first time general you did a grand job and as a last minute replacement the achievement was even more admirable. You may have lost this one but if ever asked again don’t shy away from the responsibility – a definite Monty in the making. Just one piece of advice – an Army marches on its stomach so make sure next time your team has a big breakfast; you had so few players on the field between 12.00 and 14.00 I thought you’d all gone home!
Plans are already underway for next year so see you then!!
