Does anyone know the thread size of the grip screws on an Ion?

I think I've cross threaded one, and just want to get the right tap size accordingly.

Any help appreciated.

Not after screws...

I'm not after the screws, I'm after the thread size, so I can be sure I use the right thread size when re-tapping.

3/16 or 1/4 inch unc is the popular thread size for grip screws check it against a zeus book would be the best thing to do, think its 3/16 but not 100%

Being a power systems electrical engineering consultant, and not really being very mechanically biased, could you advise what a zeus book is?

A zeus book is a machinists/mechanical engineers bible. it contains all things useful like thread size diameter / pitch etc tapping drill sizes G codes M codes etc bid sad but its quite handy for working out which die / tap you need to fix a gun especially as they all seem to use the preferred unc American thread sizes

Grip panel screws 6-32 x 5/16" button head, phillips

6-32 x 5/16" Bloody imperial rubbish.....

What does that mean exaclty? I'm used to denoting bolts etc as say M4 x 8mm, which is thread then length of bolt. Is this the same?

Right... also got to find out the next size up in metric in case I need to drill and tap the holes out to something a bit more standard... will try and find this magical father of the gods book... the Zeus Book!!

yes its the same the 6 is the diameter (usually a fraction, but for some reason it starts 0-9) the 32 is the tpi (teeth per inch) the 5/16" is the length

Sorry, just to clarify:

Drill the existing gripscrew hole out to 4.2 diameter, then use a M5 tap, and fit an M5 x 8mm screw.

Is that the recomendation?
