All Proto, DYE, Shocker and other Spool Valve guns are inherently inefficient.
However...they do benefit from being extremely soft on paint, and generally accurate with little kick.

You may suggest your friend, try lubing his gun with Shocker Lube (winter coming) and try setting up his gun over a chrono, setting teh LPR and then the dwell, untill it produces a good velocity, CONSISTENTLY with little kick.

Then it will be more efficient.

yeah as skeet says, try adjusting the dwell and LPR settings :)

Actually, you said it was a PMR? They dont have adjustable inline LPRs do they?

I'm not sure what the bolts are like on the rails, but there maybe some mods you can do to them to improve efficiency

PMR Efficiency

You need to make sure the bolt is adequately lubed and that the 'boost' o-rings are making a good seal. Check that the front wall 017 o-ring isnt strangling the bolt - you can check this by removing the bolt assembly form the gun, then taking off the manifold and sliding the cylinder on the bolt, if the tension is high, then change the 017 o-ring.

Also, try to get a good paint/barrel match, a poor match will mean you have to up the Hyper2 output pressure to maintain adequate velocity, this means you use more air per shot.

I would expect to see a box fresh rail shoot 5/6 pots and a hopper on a 4500 psi 1.1l, 850psi output preset air system. With this improving towards 6/7 pots and a hopper with time.

I hope this helps
