Anyone have any idea why I have to pay £74 on a DM6 when you can buy it for that price in the UK anyway? I bought it (2nd hand) from Gurnsey...

Hey there, last time we spoke was on TA :). Was it from an individual over there, not a business? If so I believe VAT still applies.

Hey

An individual...

I shouldn't have to pay tax on something I can get over here for the same price though...

tell them you dont want it and to return it to the sender

then email the sender and ask him to send again with birthday gift wrote on the parcel, better to pay postage twice than 70 quid tax?

Putting an item marked as a gift wont mean you will get it minus vat from different countries. I think we have all used that one and still got done. If I worked at customs and I seen the thousands of items coming into the country marked as gifts, I would certainly open them just to see if they were. I think they have cottoned on to the gift thing by now.
I would pay it and put it down to experience rather than mess about. Next time they may open the product, think its worth more than the parcel says, and whack even more vat on.
