Right, I have a DM3...do I buy a uni board and new chip + eyes or just say f*ck it and buy a whole new gun?

Edit: I think I was a bit drunk when I wrote this...To eleborate, is the DM3 just too old to cut it with newer guns and not worth spending any more money on?

Sorry, but that ain't true at all. You can run a DM3 up to 19bps without drama, with an Evolve bolt they give good shot counts and there are still good boards available for peanuts. They are heavier and less efficient stock than a newer Matrix fo sure, but to say they can't keep up is daft; just lift some weights.

That said, I'd go for one of the PM5/6/7 line as the older models are now going for silly sums- just saw a PM5 go for £110 (in about three seconds), a PM6 for £210 or so and there are loads of good PM5's etc for around the £200-250 mark. You'll end up spending the thick end of that to get an older Matrix up to spec, better to pick up one of the occasional eye'd and Evolved examples that pass this way for £100 or so and use the older one for spares, or just give in and go PM/DM for easy parts availabilty, lightness and excellent shootyness all 'round.

Cheers for the input guys, it's what I've been more or less thinking. I'll probably still buy a new board though as my guns evolve bolt'd and framed so it'll do as a backup. :)

Sorry, perhaps i didnt make myself clear.

I'm not saying they wont be able to keep up RoF wise, an ion can keep up with a DM7 in terms of that (with 15.4 capping) I meant that they are heavier, generally more maintenance, harder on the paint and in my experience, less accurate.

Again, rubbish.

DM3s are heavier, absorbing more vibration/kick. Many people would say that the accuracy is actually better on the DM3s than the newer (lighter) models, although there ain't much in it.

Harder on paint? Nope, setup properly the bolt can be made to bounce off mid grade paint, if anything they've proven to be easier on paint than the newer models.

Perhaps you've owned/shot a duffer? Either way, the only real disadvantage is the size of them, nothing else.

He speaks the truth - my old Trix would never chop, even hellfire, and it didn't even have eyes!
