see i only started following it just before ollie left so i didnt really get a look at the ironmen, but i would estimate that they were well out the top 5 before ollie went to them, and steadily throughout the season it seemed they climbed and grew better, it would be wiked to see the ironmen and joy battle it out for top spoils all next year, if you agree about the ironmen do you reckon that 1 player can really make all that difference?

Well, put it this way, before Ollie joined I woulda said the Ironmen were nowhere near the top 5 ...and now ?
Well, as I mentioned previously, 'it's a close call' and so to answer your question, it would seem the answer then has to be 'yes', especially when that one player is Ollie.

Well - one player might do the difference, but not (in my oppinion) entirely ON the field but off the field as well.... Without knowing it AT ALL I would believe, that he has a strong influence on the new teammates - which would probably mean harder practises (or well at least different - results will show if they are working!;)) and just basically a whole different way of thinking as to the "old" Ironmen!

What I´m trying to say here is, that Oliver Lang isn´t all "superman" on field - well okay sometimes he might be, but he isn´t the only one shooting people in every single game, doing ALL the work - BUT he might just have a way of making everyone improove?

Am I totally off here Robbo? :)

your right imo, he cant win a 7 v 7 on his own, but what he does do is bond the team and give them the hunger to rip it up

in addition

if you were a back man and it was ollie lang on your 50 hunting for kills, i think youd try that bit more harder to keep him alive :p

I dont think its any of that, well maybe a bit of bonding cos he's a nice fella BUT

Put Ollie on any team and the players are likely, though not guaranteed, to perform to the extremes of their ability. The ability is there already (Ollie, or anyone, can't inject ability into people!) its just psychological - condfidence can do amazing things to people - and their performance improves.

The Ironmen were great players underperforming. The addition of a world beater has given them the belief to fulfill themselves.

Just my thoughts!! (you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear!)

that was kind of my point, that playnig along side him would make players perform so much better, its like any sport imo the better people you play with the more you step up to the plate, or atleast thats the way i view things?

Yeah, I s'pose BUT I dont think that the Ironmen were trying any harder after he joined.

Ollie or any great player joining a team I played iin wouldnt make me try any harder but it might give me confidence to do stuff I might not have confidence to do all the time before, maybe just act differently, be dominant you know - its subtle but its so important to the winning psyche.

Sometimes its almost imperceptible.

Also maybe he takes the place of a weak member of the team? 1/7th of a team is a big number - improve it the Ollie degree and that could make the team a winner!!

Very rarely, if at all, are you way off Freddie, I think Ollie's presence is an inspiration on many levels; factors like confidence, work ethic, concentration levels, aggression, all are liable to improvement across the board when that bastid comes on board and as such, although he is but one player in terms of physicality, he is in fact another 6 because a part of him is in the others on his team.
Funny enough, I cover this effect in next month's PGi...

That was kinda what I tried implying by the "making the others improove"-thingy... Not making them better than they probably already are skill-wise, but yeah basically improoving on field - performing better!

And yeah as we might all know - you DO perform better when you have better confidence! ;)
