I believe I saw $1000 somewhere. The PM6 was $950 at release I think, then dropped to $750 just a few months later.

Retailing online at $999, but Dye do have a nasty habit of dropping their prices drastically after the initial hype has died down.

Pm6 started the year at £610 or thereabouts and very shortly after dropped to £450. don't get me wrong, superb value for the marker but they did the same with the DM6 and i bet there are some people who are very pissed off after shelling out for it at the start of the year.

Thats known as price skimming, its a pricing strategy designed to maximise profit by introducing the product at a high price to sell to the "early adopters", when demand for the product at this price has fallen, the price is lowered to maximise sales.

I can see why people would be frustrated at having shelled out more a few months earlier, but they surely know this is going to happen, and moreover, as you say Dusty, it is still fantastic value for money :)

problem is that this strategy has a double hit on the first buyers, as by the time they want to sell their marker, they have lost a) the original hit that any second hand item takes and b) the additional knock on effect of a price drop on the full retail, hence absolutely killing the seconda hand market.

Look at the price of DM6's now and people still can't get rid of em............

Yeah, I'd have thought to be honest theyre running out of bits to mill off the DM6 :| Cut any more away and all you've got left is an UL frame :|
There's no on/off on the PM7

They've put the LPR at the front so they're able to reduce the height.

They did it with the PM5 as well...the PM5 is the DM4 and the PM6 is the DM5 - just with little bits changed - like the on/off being removed and the LPR being put at the front... :D

if a pm5 is a cut down dm4

how come it weighs less and is smaller than a dm5?

very true ,if given the choice of a new certain low budget marker or 2nd hand ego 05 for £200 it's a no brainer
