I think its fair to say that 7 Man as we know it will never make any huge waves from a spectators point of view, either just standing and watching, or on TV... No1 really wants to see a bunch of guys shoot 7 or 8 pots down a lane before a game opens up enough to get interesting.

Thats why Xball/CPL is so good to watch, its fast and furious! And I for one prefer playing it. Train crash paintball 4 lyfe :D

"*The* way to play paintball, imo, with excitement and the adrenaline running for the entire match instead of in the stops and starts you get with waiting around between games in 7-man."

Thats wot they're missing out on :D

Anyways - 2 X-Ball Lite leagues next year should be awesome :D - no more sitting around waiting til 1 for the CPL to start on the friday!

One thing you're all forgetting is that the different format requires more fields. The MS have survived on 5 fields this year, going to 6 or 7 has to be viable with both infrastructure and money for refs etc as well as physical space at events. Bitburg is about the only one where I think it wouldn't matter....

The last thing any serious league is gonna be doing in terms of expenditure for 2007 is..expanding .... it ain't gonna happen.
We are entering a period of overal contraction and the industry will have to adjust across every level.

I'm afraid leagues, much like everything else in this sport are not driven from below (players and teams), the main dynamics are determined from above and as such, the industry financial climate will have a huge bearing on who does what and how.

I dont beleive that. We have been running a modified version of M7 in the Norwegian Paintball League this entire season, the only difference is 12 minutes gametime instead of 15, and first to 3 instead of 5. And we run 16 teams with 3 prelim games, quarter finales, semis and finales (just as the CPL) in 1 day

The format proposed for D1 in the Millennium Series is first to 4, but 10 minutes game time. Wich means that you can run 32 teams in 1 field in 2 days. The Millenium has 3 days available and with the posibility to use the CPL field for half a day, it should be no problem at all to run CPL and D1 using only 2 fields. And 3 fields should be enough to cover the rest of the divisions for 3 days. At the most they might need to add 1 extra field at the events with most teams attending.

And regarding paint, my team wich ended up 2nd overall just behind Oslo Menace, we did not use any more paint than we would use in D1 Millenium this year if we went all the way to the finals. We have already been playing this format for a year, and this is by far the best format we have ever played regarding the cost and people you need to bring. Xball is a lot more expensive.

Also i think we will see a raise in entry fees for 2007. Just my guess, but its 2 years since they raised it.

and do you really think that all the div 2 and div 3 (and even most of the div 1) teams can afford the costs of playing xball? i.e the paint consumption? i dont kno how much paint the CPL teams shot compared to the D1 teams, but being xball its gotta be alot more

another thing is fiting it in? They can just about fit in the M7 over the 3 days, imagine trying to fit in 3 more divisions. it aint gonna happen over night, i think the millenium are taking things slow, to avoid cock-ups and work out the best solution of turning the whole series into this new xball lite format (as if there are any cockups in the millenium series )
