Enjoy the show while it lasts. Word is you won't be seeing paintball on ESPN again for a very long time....
to be honest i think it is poor.

No crowds, no atmosphere. you can't even see who is shooting at who.

I just can't see how it is meant to excite anyone.

I wasn't very impressed with the first show, but each week so far the shows have been getting better and better. You can tell the camera guys are starting to figure out where they need to be to get the right shots and how the players are likely to move.

If this is true, and Missy ain't normally wrong, it backs up something that was said to me a few weeks back by a real industry big hitter in that he was told, 'if this show (Smart Parts show) don't make it, you're (paintball) done'.

I ain't gonna identify the source coz it serves no purpose but I would ask you guys to trust me when I say if this guy says anything, then it's true.

I hope both Missy and he are wrong and this latest snippet of gossip is way off the mark and to counter it somewhat, I did hear ESPN stumped up a million to buy the rights of this production from SP.
ESPN are hardly gonna hand over one million bucks just to ditch it from their production schedule ... nah something ain't right here and both bits of information are certainly not easily reconciled.

The truth will out soon enough I suppose ........

Pete, I have no axe to grind on this particular issue, in that I wanted the SP show to get ratings and do well.

I have heard from ESPN that after airing a few SP shows. Not only are they not interested in developing a paintball show themselves (a situation where they fund the show as in Miami), they will not even allow companies to buy any prime-time spots to show paintball on TV. Thats pretty damning.
I watched the shows, we can see exactly what SP were trying to accomplish, in truth they made many of the mistakes we had to make, and its a shame here was no dialogue between SP and PP before they filmed, as there would have been some very valuable advice handed over. As it is, there are other channels, and we will have to see what happens. Perhaps watching paintball live on the internet is the way to go......

Paintball on the internet sucks.

We need paintball in HD, not paintball in suck-ass artifact-ridden compressed-to-oblivion jerky internet streaming.

If ANY of you had talked to me about how we filmed our show in 2005 neither of you would have had to make the mistakes you did.

Ah well, guess I'm back to being the only guy with a paintball show on TV again. I'll even be able to get the network it airs on starting next week!

Yes Chicago, all you need to do now is make it interesting. I found myself watching 'Flavor of LOve' instead the last time because the teams were just so incredibly boring to watch. I mean really, really boring. I doubt there is much you can do about it with what you have to work with, but yeah, even the refs complain that there isn't enough to do during the college games. For sure you won't have the problem of disputed decisions, as most of them sit behind thier bunkers until they 'catch an unlucky one' anyway. Typically the team that gets lucky and shoots all the opposition first, sit behind thier own bunkers for the rest of the game shooting at nobody. No, while I applaud your TV appearances, and do not wish to detract from them, or be disrespectful of your acheivements, the product is not right - at least in my opinion.

I actually think the webcast worked pretty well. It needs refining, but generally the people watching it seem to like it. It needs to be filmed with better camera's etc, I agree, but I prefer watching a live game to an edited game any day.

If you're basing this on watching teams play at NPPL events, you're watching the wrong teams. West coast teams are the newest and least experienced - it's like watching D3 games and using that to form an opinion about the Pros. Most of the best college teams are out east; UConn, Illinois, GaTech would eat the teams who played OC for breakfast.

I agree they don't give the refs much to do though, but that's only because they know how to call themselves out when they're hit.

Missy - as you probably know, Bart called me up on Sunday from OC and asked I watch the webcast of the finals, which I did.
I didn't watch all of it but I saw enough to realize the present production ethos needs a lot of work mate.

You seem to be implying (I could be wrong here) that in defaulting to web based coverage that the audience demographic is then solely paintballers because there is NO way you will attract non ballers to watch it mate, no way.

Chicago actually articulated exactly what I was thinking in one of his previous posts when he commented upon the way we present an actual game and its players, and its inherent shortfalls.
It just don't work - it really doesn't.

As a baller, I found it wanting, extremely so.
Any shots, need a context otherwise it's meaningless and as such, as Chicago commented, we need an overheard shot of the whole game in frame for the entire game.
Any baller who watches those webcasts can pretty much fill in the blanks for some of the time and make some sense of what's going on but for people who haven't played ball, no chance.
In fact the present production style will make non ballers switch off because it makes frustrating viewing when you don't know what the hell is going on.

I can only conclude you have for all intents and purposes given up hope of us ever getting it out there to the masses...am I right?
If I am right, then it's a sad day but not an altogether surprising one :(
