One industry heavyweight recently told me that during a conversation he had with one of the TV execs involved in this production that this was our last chance and if this show doesn't nail it, then we are royally fukked.......

Our fate therefore has already been edited ... pardon the pun but I'm afraid there's nothign we can do about it now ...... we have to sit and wait......and wait....
Seems a shame that should be the case, especially as shows like Extreme Dodgeball, 100 Greatest Paving Slabs and anything involving Jade Goody are still on the air.

How will they judge if it's been nailed though?

The Nielson ratings system is total crap.

I refuse to belief that this is true. So ESPN would turn down money if Smart Parts or DYE (or anyone else for that matter) offered to buy airtime and give it another go? And ESPN has also decided that the S7 format has no legs and won't go back and investigate that if this fails?

It seems too cut & dried for me. It sounds like a statement that someone might throw out there to make a point. It's almost... dogmatic.

I saw the show, and while I will respectfully omit my personal opinions, the 'ratings' it has received on ST and PBN from players that watched the show are not promising. I would sugest that the ad missed the mark, but its not about the ads, that would be SP's problem exclusively, its more about the show, which has further reaching connotations.

Pete, did you get to watch the show yet? Jeff, I presume you watched it, what did you think?

Well, I'm sort of a squid. I like watching paintball on TV just because it's paintball. And two ex-players of mine are on the Raiders, so I was content just being able to watch them.

However, my parents are not the same. They watched the NPPL on ESPN because I made them and came to the Boston NPPL of their own accord. On Sunday, I had them over to watch football and I made them watch this show, to get their reactions. Truely content free "fans".

They said they didn't like it as much because there was too much up-close camera work. Most of the time, they felt like they were watching one person in one bunker shooting at an unseen target. They couldn't get a feel for where the person in the bunker was on the field, what he was shooting at and why (ok, not why per se, but to what strategic end). They both said they liked the sky-cam views from the NPPL. My father also thought the scoreboard babes and band screamed low-rent production.

They did like all the interviews and pit cam's and the off-field part of it.

Without offering a whole lot of particulars I'm in general agreement with most of the comments--excepting the incomprehensible computerese gibberish of the video pirates.
However, I will pass on something I was told about the series of episodes upcoming and that is the first show was also the first filmed and as the production picked up more sense of the game they got better footage and got it faster and the shows should build and improve.
I have no idea if in fact we will see improved programs or not as the series goes along but it isn't just one show, it's, what? 12, I think. So the jury is still out even if first impressions might disappoint a bit. I'm not even sure at the end of the day if it's about the quality of the production period.

I'm also in agreement with Jeff in that it seems unlikely that this is paintball's last shot at TV. May be the last shot for a while, but never again if it doesn't do whatever it's supposed to do? I doubt that.
