Poor Paint

Just have to vent my spleen regarding a day at Delta Force that I had to go to at the weekend. (commitment to freinds etc etc)

Ok... we had a good day balling...quite well organised... marshalls freindly and into fair game play etc... And for me, although new to the walk-on scene (1 down....lots more to go hopefully.... ) managed to take what I had learnt from that one day to help me and my team.. even managed to take out 12 out of a 20 man team by being sneaky and flanking them out on my own... :D

Anyway the point of my post is the paint that we were using. I won't even go in to the price of it, as it was just insane at £6 per 100 you would have thought for the quantity they sell at these days with 400+ punters they could lower it a bit?

The paint I think had Black Kat on the box. We were using the Inferno Mk II which I'm told is quite a good reliable workhorse, but when using this Black Kat paint through the inferno it was going all over the place. To get a feel for the accuracy I stood about 20 metres from a tree and tried to shoot it. About 1 in 5 hit the target and the rest just kept swerving off all over the place.

During the game it was either get lucky on mid range shots or get in real close to gaurantee a hit. Also, collectively we discussed afterwards the fact that more than half the paint hit just bounced off without bursting.

So... some of the lads had some paint left so I took it home and put it through my Ion... it was still going all over the place and a lot of the paint was intact after so I think it unfair to blame the poor old Inferno MkII's.

Don't even ask me why headshots and gun/bottle/hopper shots don't count. Takes the fun out of it... but I suppose it keeps u in the game a lot longer to use more paint. Oh... and punters... wiping... shooting after u have put your hand up.... doh...... I know these days promote paintball to the masses but some of the people that go..... grrrrrr.......

Anyway, still had a good day... just wish they would either charge a bit less for the paint... or use slightly better paint.... or perhaps store what they got properly to ensure it doesnt get dimpled and stuff.......

There. Rant over.

But for £6 per 100

For £6 per 100 you would expect Delta Force to employ a full time paint be-yatch to turn the boxes over twice a day.... ensure the temperature and humidity are just right... and read it bedtime stories every nite.

£120 charge per box which costs them £20 per box. 400 punters who r using on average 800 paint a punter equals...320,000 paint or 160 boxes... £100 profit per box at 160 boxes equals £16,000 profit just on paint for that one day! Blimey! Yeah yeah I know they use this money to run the site maintain the guns etc... but it still seems quite a lot...

That seems like an average charge to me, but most sites run with the more you buy the cheaper it gets. Next time you may want to club together with mates and buy in bulk. As for the state of the paint as stated previously it does sound like it wasn't stored properly. :(

Punter price's

£6 per 100 seems about right for punter prices unfortunately. And generally speaking the paint used by sites isn't the greatest quality to begin with.
Bear in mind that, from the point of view of site owners. Lack of accuracy is a good thing as it means people shoot more in order to get the elimination. Same thing with head and gun hits not counting, and with bouncing paint. Anything that gets punters shooting more paint= £££
In all fairness, sites have allot of overheards to pay; marshals, maintence, Public liability Insurance (Which for a paintball site is a fair bit!)
Also sites that run BYO walk-ons can only afford to do this because of the money they make off the punters.

Last hire site I went to the paint was so hard it was like shooting marbles. Bounce-off's everywhere.

Site that use Draxxus have a lot more returning customers......:D

Holmbush for one doesn't hold back on what paint they use for punters, its either PMI - Premium or Draxxus Blaze, so two good all round paintballs there, so everytime ive been up there watching the punters play, its nice to see straight shots and marshall not constantly cleaning markers...

So when the site spends that extra £2/3 per box they make back on how much time has to be spent cleaning the guns on the field and firing punters are happy punters that make the site owner happy because they can fire more paint meaning spending more money...and most probally more than the extra £2/3.....

Too many site owners trying to save a couple of quid in the first place, by spending it they would make £10 back..

You also have to bear in mind that harder paint is needed for rental compared to tournament play due to the hammering it goes through - guns that are harder on the paint, customers shaking their guns/loaders like mad to get the paint to drop, customers dropping guns or rolling around like Rambo. If the paint used at rental sites was as fragile as that used for tournament or even walk-on, there would be so many breaks that the poor old refs would spend most of their time cleaning the inside of the barrels/loaders, and the customers would miss lots of play due to the breaks.
