And so, the reality of last year's NEC was merely the Millennium show promoted nr Birmingham in a car park next to some grass ...... and so, any nostalgic trip back to Brum can easily be replicated wherever anybody can find a car park and some grass somewhere near a place that has an airport, preferably Heathrow or Gatwick for obvious reasons of incoming Europeans.

It's not as if we are looking for the Holy Grail here .... or am I missing something here?
So what about a race course, Sandown Park or Kempston, both on the edge of SW London, between Gatwick and Heathrow. Much better environs than CP, good facilities. parking, access, indor facilities for teams/sponsors etc. hell, even the trade village could be indoors! Covers grandstands and plenty of grassed areas inside the course too! Worth a thought?

I thought that XL were a Platinum sponsor, and that the MS sold off the stuff at like 25euro a square afterwards, like they sell off the fields (bunkers) too?
The costs are in the transportation and storage. From what I understand the leagues got X number of fields last year and these are the ones still in use until they get sold off. That's why the ones this year are starting (in places) to look tatty.

I think that XL thought paintball was an untapped market and when all the field owners realised the costs the market wasn't as big as they thought it was. It's a great idea, but I think some things about the design make it unsuitable long term option.

I'm sure you'll see XL a bit next year, but i think it's prescence will be ever decreasing over time.

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong as I love it - but £ talk..

My view as a ref - for what it is worth - is that the organisers did a good job to sort out the problems caused by the weather, and there were enough refs on each field who were well looked after.

The refs were a bit shy about cleaning bunkers , and kicking paint out from behind bunkers (so you don't kneel on it and get pulled out) - they didn't appreciate that the spods (bunker cleaners) were a luxury, and should be helped out.

As for being indoors at somewhere like Xcel - it will NEVER happen for any large scale event, we are too messy and treat venues with too much contempt, let alone the costs.
I was amazed at the sight of one British team arriving who when they got to the table for the afternoon shift, started to chuck the crap left by the previous team all over the floor and the central walkway, including some little dishes of pasta and salad, and in some cases chucking it 6-10 feet away in disgust at their table being covered in another teams rubbish, even though there was a bin liner stuck to the end of the table. I was also suprised on just how bad some teams treated the facilties in that room and really didn’t give a toss - with total disregard for anyone else - Leaving these venues like a sh1t hole will probably leave venues thinking “what’s the point in hosting paintball?” So I agree with Beaker that some nice indoor arena wouldnt even consider hosting, especially if they saw the players/pit area at CP alone, never mind the paint…

God, im sounding like my mum!

the main thing that sucked was the corona girls-except one tho- and their outfits they needed to show some skin not the full body power ranger suits they had on
