please dont bash me if you disagree with the above
I agree with Rich on pretty much everything

and would add that
*it wasn't a great idea to keep spectation from the stands to only 2 fields.
*One of the fields was cut off halfway down (Tomahawk?) for no obvious reason
*on the fields, the XL turf was a bit dodgily placed, as someone says had they sold some of it already ;)?
*The plastic they placed under the turf was necessary but the wrong kind of plastic, and became increasingly slippy on the second day (when the paint wasn't cleaned up- not a dig at the bunker cleaners, you worked your butts off!) especially when walking to the deadbox a couple of players not just on my team were slipping over; not safe
*security...I wasn't allowed to go INTO the bar without showing my ID, from the players area, but was allowed to walk OUT OF the bar from the public area without being checked :rolleyes:

I gotta say I've only been to three; I played Esher; loved it, I watched NEC, and potted up for this one, and they were all great. I enjoyed Escher most of all as a player, and NEC was really great from a spectators point of view.
There was some kudos from it being at Crystal palace and being able to sit in the grandstands, but it kinda rattled about, there wasn't the atmosphere of last year when people were packed into the stands to watch :D.

Food was good, a little expensive but it always is. Loving the corona bus etc (I think they were a little cold in those outfits ;)).

Trade stands, I thought they were good, and there were some sales on saturday in the Dye tent (woop £1 hats)

access to the site, I thought was not brilliant but not awful either...I traveled up alone by train which I've got to admit was pretty daunting having never been on trains through London  (victoria station is scary!!), and tho a map I printed off said it was a 5 min walk to the stadium it took me a 15 min taxi ride (having been told I'd have to walk thru the dark park at 9:30 by the taxi woman...) to get to the campsite (pretty much right next to the stadium)
(The campsite was hillarious btw, having arrived I was, lol, confronted by 3 people who nigh on jumped on me when I said I was there for the paintball and asked me for ID of some sort (what??), and I had to call someone up from on the campsite so they'd let me down (we'd already paid and I'd even given them their names...!). We were told that Fuggle or whoever it was, had not told them about Campaign, or something, and they were pretty narked, and said we were all rude and had a bad attitude, and rowdy, and they'd already had to throw someone off the site (thursday!), and if we were rowdy that night we'd all be gone by tomorrow morning!! Lol.
Gotta say There was no trouble at all, so well done for proving them wrong guys ;))

NEC was the nuts in terms of getting there, motorway, trains and airport; you basically got off the train and you were there (despite there being no signs actually onsite so I went the wrong way taking me 30 min...:D)

But there were a lot of positives and I really enjoyed the whole thing, there were some things that could have been improved on but they didn't spoil it for me, merely, if they were better it would be reeeally good. So...don't say we're ungrateful; just suggesting what could've been done better ;).

Yeah I really liked Esher too Rosie.

People were a little disappointed with the atmosphere at Esher, due to the small number of American Pros in attendence (compared to the year before) and the fact that the pros were separated from the common plebs. But that situation has hardly improved in subsequent years anyway.

you are wrong....so basicly what you are saying is that the UK baller has to suffer in silence and take second best, and not voice there concerns to make this event better, with the threat of losing this event at the UK for speaking up on a public forum, then you slate said people as bloody idiots for handing over all there hard earned cash, not just on the event but every thing that goes with it, ie; hotels, train/car/air fares etc for having an opinion...
you are soooo wrong!

No I am not saying UK ballers should suffer in silence and take second best, I am also not claiming that everyone with a criticism is a fool, only those with no justification.
What I am saying is it is the same thing every year and if the event was perfect someone would complain that the toilet paper had no pattern on it.
The Campaign cup is the worlds longest running annual paintball competition (their claim not mine) and there is no danger that the UK will lose it, what I said is we could lose a Millennium series event.
Let me make something clear at this point, I have no connections at all with the MS, in fact I have a few complaints about the series myself on the reffing side because of the inability of certain staff to do the job correctly, but that’s for another thread.
But when people complain with no knowledge of the facts of the matter that’s what grates.
As far as saying players are idiots for handing over that amount of money for a couple of days recreational balling, well that fact is beyond doubt.
And now someone will tell me it’s not rec ball !!!

Thing is, people don't care about the facts of the matter. What people care about is what's presented to them, either as a spectator or player. The paintball public expect a certain level from a Millenium Series event, a level reached and surpassed by many others in the past.

To expect people to take the background situation into account when voicing their opion of thier experience is a bit ridiculous. It's like saying that we can't be critical of a movie like Pearl Habour beacuse it cost over $100mil and took years and hundreds of people to make. The fact was the end film presented to the public on screen was a turd.

PS. I'm not saying that Campaign this year was a turd, it was just criticaly flawed due to the venue.

PPS. The XBall and the stands made Esher IMHO. Just like the Nations Cup was an awesome event at toulouse and campaign 03.

The amount of weed beeing smoked in public areas was off the scale. If the police had been knocking around they would have had a field day and the MS could have been in serious trouble. If you wanna indulge in such habits feel free to do so in privacy but not around the family, friends and relatives of those playing.

^^ amen to that one mate, could hardly take a breath of fresh air. I dont mind people smoking, baccy or or otherwise, but I can see that it would put a lot of people off, and there is the fact that its not exactly legal, could bring both the MS and the sport into disrepute. Think about it, a bunch of drugged up guys shooting each other? Not quite the right image...

Crystal Palace is the spiritual home of the Campaign Cup and long may it continue to be. Just ask anyone who hasnt been there before how they felt when they stood in the stands fore the first time and looked out over the paintball heaven in fron of them.
I was at the NEC last year and Crystal Palace this year (for the first time) but sorry dude NEC was far better than Crystal Palace.

Yes, I stood in the stands, but all I thought was why can't I see all of this
paintball heaven.

NEC all the way:cool:

and if it had p*ssed it down all weekend at the NEC everyone would have complained about the complete lack of cover...

Personally I preferred Crystal Palace, at least it tries to have the feeling of granduer and event. And were we really in the NEC, hell most paintballers couldn't find it and they were looking for it.

However considering the "success" of the Corona hook up I think we might just have to face facts that no-one wants to see us, whereever we are. So the PSP model it is then...
