Is paintball being promoted enough in the UK?

It also says that there are 15 million players. I assume that's world wide.
15 mill may have played paintball but that's not 15 million players.
It's another one of those "there's lies, there's damn lies, and then you get statistics" things.
That 15 million means f*ck all. To get to that number they have indeed included everybody that has picked up a rental gun once. Doesn't say anything about how many people play the game, either as a hobby or a sport. It's one of those feel good statistics...

Pete, that big hitter thing, is that literally or figuratively speaking? :D

Tartan, so let me get this right, you admit in the post above, that perhaps your use of English in the previous post wasn't your best (an understatement may I suggest), you then go on to craft a mathematical function that sets out to illustrate the relative ease / merits of playing Paintball as against soccer, and you go on to achieve this by using arbitrary relationships with arbitrary values.
And the most unbelievable part is that you are using these to illustrate an arbitrary point because I do not believe 'ease of uptake' explains away the popularity of soccer over Paintball anyway.

And with this glowing masterpiece of intellectual genius you hope to rebutt Buddha, one of the most intelligent and expereinced guys on these boards??

Tartan, let me give you some well meant and friendly advice mate, pick your fights better, and if you do happen to find yourself in the same ring as a big hitter...look for the ropes....take a run up, and dive straight thru them :)
Ok I said I would stop but then I thought I was agreeing with budhha then not continuing to argue but nevermind. First please don't go start off with exaggeration I admitted it wasn't my best english but still two overly long sentences is hardly the worse to be seen on the forums and it was hardly unreadable. Two my values may have been arbitary (what did you want me to do check the endorphines of around a hundred football players and hundred paintballers to get an accurate "fun rating"?) but the relationships which I will admit weren't accurate were far from abritary and neither was the point. But if you do believe that what do you honestly think affects whether people play a sport or not? As by discounting my thoughts as unsupported ,as you do, you are basically saying that people are not affected by the cost, amount of events, ease of organization, transport OR advertising as those were all covered in my equation. (under time if you want to ask, as the finding out about events, getting there, waiting for the next one or waiting till the last minute to see if an event is actually happening all take time) So what exactly does make a person take up a sport might I ask? But wait I thought you did think advertising would increase numbers.
All the time the industry ignore the commonsense imperative of working together to achieve a collective marketing campaign, we will wallow, in this country at least, in public indifference and ignorance of our sport.

Bejeezus if an outfit like Delta Force can promo on a national level as they do, and have the success they do, especially when you think of the product they actually sell, then it's truly unbelievable how the industry hasn't responded.
So if you would pick a stance yourself it would help me not to cross wires here.
But I digress I didn't mean to continue argueing as my last point I was accepting that buddha knew more regarding the financing of sites than me and also accepted that the price for punters to take up the sport wouldn't change even if it does effect the uptake of any sport. So all I thought I was doing was supporting his point that advertising walkons and having more of them would help the uptake of paintball. Yet if you disagree like you have point out the corrections that need to be made first.

Finally chunk, jamie I hardly try and make friends by arguing (I do have some social skills whatever you think) but I would hope that no one would take such offence to become an enemy in a simple exchange of ideas. Also sid the mathmatics of my formulae was sound just check it with a calculator whether it was socilogically correct is another matter whcih I am happy to contest but yet I again I did believe that I was agreeing with most of the viewpoints here with it.
So finally I don't intend to make enemies even if I argue agressively (can't help it sorry) but I did think I was trying to agree with my former post but if you feel otherwise please continue....

EDIT
hmm is endorphines right? know thats produced for alchol, sex etc but is it also produced when feeling happy or is it something else? can't remember should have taken biology I guess

Tartan PLEASE explain to me when and where I had a pop at your thinking, I was simply having a laugh with Chunk.

I think maybe this year for Xmas you should ask Santa not to bring you a scientific calculator or indeed a dictionary and instead ask him to nip down woolworths and get you a sense of humour as I understand it they have a special on at the moment, buy a sense of humour get a personality free!!!(I got one in the sale for Dskize)

Wind your neck in wee man, you have been on the scene for a very short time and your starting fights with people who have forgotten more than you will know.

As for the thread...do you run a site, do you play top level paintball?? What do you actually know about this other than what you have seen down your local venue?

Just my 2p worth.....

Like I said sorry I argue agrssively and respond to banter just as fiercely as to proper arguments personal foible of mine but there you have it. I thought saying that my maths was incorrect was an argument so responded accordingly if it wasn't then again apologies I take arguments too seriously.

Also no I don't play top level paintball and no I don't run a site or have any knowledge beyond what I have seen from the the few sites I have been at but I have admitted this
I don't claim to know the situation of every paintball site
I'll admit you'll have had alot more experience of the problem than me but all I was doing was commenting on sites that I have seen
but just because I have less experience doesn't mean my points can be discounted out of hand.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned before about the problem with reading text from what is essentially a faceless person, which you at this stage are Tartan. People can misinterpret the points you make regardless of how valid they are simply because you’re a kid with a h@rdon for big words.

I’m not trying to kick anything off here with our two teams, i.e. you and the clan. But when you come on here, write a side of A4 about how things should be then charge out on a paintball field with your gas off and get Cyclops’d, you’ve got to question how much weight your points are carrying when you try and justify them, no?

You’re a kid mate, enjoy the sport and f*ck the politics till your Robbo and Sid’s age.

Peace

Bottom line is this tournament paintball is not used as an advertising tool by the media, I mean come on, we cream our pants when we see some burd dressed as a cat shooting some guy dressed as a dog in the Thomson local advert!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you are a tournament player, or know someone who is a tournament player then you will never know about paintball in it's tournament form and it will always be weekend warriors playing toy soldiers. These are the facts. We can sit here and bitch and moan as much as we like but until someone in the media decides tournament paintball is to be used as part of an advertising campaign then all we will ever be is what we are now.

Right, question, how many of us watch tournament DVD's, but only really enjoy watchin the bit at the start with the music and snips of plays? I know I do..so as I have said, until a tournament player sells paintball as a fast paced, colourful and exciting mediam to use to promote a product then we will get nowhere fast. Your camo clad DF or whatever peeps will continue down the local shopping centres selling paintball as woodland johnny commando warrior $hit.

Campaign Cup is this weekend....biggest event in the UK are any media there outside paintball, come on, london TV, news, anything? All it takes is a little spark, a little promotion, not Sid from Scotland talking to a camera and telling them about how great it is to be there...NO.....give them the same style intro we see on DVD's.....I have footage on my mobile phone that I show my customers nearly every week of my team playing, all it is is breakout, 15 seconds if that and everyone is like wow, listen to the guns, look at the colours, that looks great.....use our strengths as a sport to promote ourselves.

Again 2p worth....I did have a much better reply but my mrs made me sign off........yes Robbo it's the same one you met.....women!!!!!

Sid

Do I really look as young as Robbo......gee thanks x

Ya know Tartan, if there's one thing I have learned time and again on this site, it is the following :- 'Pete, stay away from wannabee smart arses' ...... because commonsense cannot ever win, you are limbering up to become a Scottish Brockdorff and believe me, Scotland can well do without duplicating his presence in this neck of the solar system.

I really can't be arsed to even bother answering your reply because you will only answer again, not with a reasoned rebuttal that stays on course but with what you think is a clever reply.

I can tell by the way you phrased and constructed that last one, you 'think' you are clever and that was the mistake Brockdorff always used to make because in his head, it legitimized his replies, whatever they turned out to be...and I am afraid you are afflicted with the same shortcoming.
