Recent developments within the Southern paintball scene have resulted in a couple of changes to the NSPL 2006 calendar having to be made.

Many of you will be aware that recently the Euro 5 Man was postponed to the weekend of the 21st-22nd October. Those of you who are particularly astute will have realised that this event's new location within the calendar clashed with the planned Reading round of the NSPL.

We see many comments about tournament organisers not working together on these and other forums. Well, maybe this is a first, but myself and Warren Maxwell (organiser of the Euro 5 Man) have actually put our heads together to come up with a solution to this problem, rather than just competing the events against each other and undoubtably harming the success of both.

The Euro 5-Man will now count as one of the SE Regional fixtures of the NSPL and NSPL teams playing the Euro 5-Man will now earn league points. The event will replace one of the SE Paintball Village fixtures and the September and October fixtures of the league have been switched around to accommodate this change.

The remaining fixtures of the NSPL season are as follows...

NSPL Round 8 - September 24th - (Reading)
NSPL Round 9 - October 21st-22nd - (Ashford, Euro 5 Man)
NSPL Round 10 - October 29th - (Skirmish Bristol, Portishead)
NSPL Round 11 - November 12th - (South East Paintball Village, Ashford)
NSPL Round 12 - November 19th - (Skirmish Bristol, Portishead)

The www.nspl.co.uk web site has been updated with these details and you can still use that web site to book in to all the remaining fixtures, including the Euro 5 Man.

This is an extra opportunity for many NSPL teams to enjoy yet another major UK event as part of your 2006 season. I realise that this solution will not suit everyone, but genuinely believe that it is the best option given the situation and hope that many teams will see this as a great addition to the NSPL calendar.

This change also means that the next NSPL event has been scheduled an extra week after Campaign, giving SW teams more space around that the time of that important event. As always, I welcome your feedback and look forward to seeing you all in Reading on September 24th!

Oh dear, whats going on here? 1st we (Teams in NSPL) have changed from non - ramping events to ramping events, 2nd from 7-man to 5 man and now 3rd, Div 1 teams in the NSPL have got to go Pro in the Euro 5-man!!! so Stealers Am, ECI and Tigers Am, who are Div 2 Millenium teams, (and play only 7-man) will be playing against CPL Teams (in the Millenium) who have been playing 5 Man all year. Am i the only one thats thinks this is wrong, or am i just going soft in my old age?

Twizz. I don't think that is fair mate. The NSPL has not changed from non-ramping to ramping events. HG4 was ramping as a one-off only and the decision on ramping at the Euro 5-Man is Warrens to make.

You have to bare in mind that the decision to count the Euro 5-Man as an NSPL scoring event was made in order to sort out the major problem of the NSPL Reading fixture clashing with it. Let's get real - what would have happened if myself and Warren had decided to run with the date clash?

The result is a couple of compromises needing to be made in order to make this work and allow you guys to pick and choose your events without the added pressure of a major date clash. Remember that you can always decide to play an additional NSPL event rather than the Euro 5 Man if you choose. In your case, there are two Bristol fixtures that you could consider. So, I have actually left the flexibility there for you and just tried to do the right thing for everyone.

So, I really don't think that post was justified, but hey, it's a free country and all that. I will look in to the division issue a little more and if anything changes, I will let you know, but I really don't see a huge issue there. How many CPL squads are on the list at the moment? Two. And don't we often see NSPL Div 1 squads containing Millennium Div 1 or even CPL players?

However, I appreciate that having the NSPL forcing teams to play in a particular division at the Euro 5-Man may be an issue and that's the area I will look at. Maybe a penalty applied to the NSPL score you get out of the event if you play a lower division than those stated? Leave it with me.

Syd, could you please confirm the method of allocating points earned at the Euro 5 man to the NSPL series? I'm not really fussed about the lower division penalty, more how the points scored in the Pro div of the 5 man convert to NSPL series points. Thanks.

Entry fee is £550 for Pro?

Marc0 - SWPL Div 1 teams should have the same ruling applied as SE teams though.

Hi Dave,

The scoring will be calculated to give all teams a fair score comparitive to a similar performance at an NSPL regional event. The exact method will depend on the final team list for the Euro 5 Man and I will let you know closer to the event.

Rest assured, I will make sure the NSPL scoring from the Euro 5-Man is done in a logical and fair manner.
