why are we kidding our selves?
All it is, is a way of getting rid of old kit then spending it on new kit or paint. How can this not be god for both parties?
Plus it brings people together.

Just in the same way as forum classifieds ‘don’t support the industry’
At any large gathering of paintballers there usually is trading going on, a ‘Paintball car boot’ is essentially an extension of face to face trading by formalising that it will take place as opposed to pre arranged meeting up
1. Old kit is recirculated, meaning sales are not made by the industry to those players - sales lost now, and also in the future, because you have now conditioned players to look for used gear and given them a forum to do it.
2. The money made from selling the gear is just as likely to be spent on rent, booze, daily-life-stuff as anything else. And are we really supposed to believe that the players that sell their old kit at a car-boot-sale will then buy new gear at full retail from stores? More likely they will use the same car-boot-sale to upgrade themselves.
I'm not saying it's bad for the players. In the short-term its great for the players. At least until there are no more stores. What I am saying, is that it's not good for the industry. If you have a system that saves one set of people some money, that money has to come from somewhere else, right? That's how economics works..

When things are going good and the sport is growing, second hand sales helps established players buy new gear AND new players to obtain gear and start playing.
However, when more players are leaving it can accelerate the spiral of doom. Quitting players dump their gear for whatever they can get creating a glut of used gear bringing down prices and making it more difficult to sell brand new stuff to anyone. Even the hardcore players who were getting a new marker every year can't do it anymore because the resale value on their old one is too low.
But it's important to understand that second hand market does not create the problem. The real problem is the dwindling player base.

But surely it can work the other way too: People who want to try paintball, but have other immediate spending such as food/rent, can get some stuff cheap, allowing them to give it a try? If they had to buy new they (or 'the boss') would say, 'you're not spending all that cash on something you don't know whether you like'?
I think paintball jumble/boot sale is a great idea!
I think it would be good if it took place on a paintball site, where you pay a fee to sell and buy(pay the local shops and fields) and maybe get some retailers there to try and give back to the industry(option to buy new and old gear maybe at at discount as you’ve payed a fee to be there)
On a side note, a "paintball car boot sale" happens all the time on Facebook. It's full of the stuff.
