I have been thinking, how cool it would be to have a p8ntball app. I use my iPhone most of time to check the forums. Would it not make it easier to use? How do you mainly check the forum rooms?

I dislike forum apps, either generic plugins like tapatalk or custom ones for the specific forum

Both methods lose many features of the forum and I don't see any advantage over using a browser

Equally I hate 'optimise for mobile' on websites. This just cuts down the website and stops it working as the site was designed. The web capabilities of mobile phones devices has changed majorly since the early days of Nokia phones on the web, the main reasons were speed and the limits of screens. These days screens can cover the web and bandwidth can cope. If you find yourself away from 3G then an optimized website is also going to struggle

We've spent decades getting phones to cope with the 'real internet' and still people seem to want to restrict it down because we're mobile

On the iPhone just use 'add to home screen' and you have your own 'app'

The forum has been optimised for mobile use, it should look different on your phone to how it looks on your desktop. It doesn't lose any functionality as such, just laid out slightly differently.

Now, that having been said, I used to prefer using the desktop site on my phone anyway but the new layout works for me. I do most of my forum work on my phone believe it or not :)

Mobile view is only good for checking something out on the go and developing a separate mobile app would not contribute to anything

I like the idea of an app for the forum, just quickly opening and checking.

also maybe have a notification feature for new messages.
But it seems alright how it is with the mobile view.

You can save the web page on your phone as a little icon app... so when you click on it your straight on the page and login

But yes a app for messaging alerts would be useful in my opinion
You can set your alerts in your profile preferences, which will flag up on the top of the page for updates on threads, PMs etc

For PMs (conversations) you can also set email notification, which you can then have your email system alerting you about

But as a forum you should be checking in regularly and using 'new posts' to keep up to date with what's being discussed

(I might make a petition to highlight to parliament to make it law that people have to regularly go into forums for the good of the community as part of 'Big society'
