UK Woodland Masters Round 1 Review

So for those in attendance, what did you think of the event?

Did you enjoy it?
Was it well run?
Would you do it again?

For me, I would answer YES to all of the above.

But why? Well this was a big event. Where the organisers had to extend the team cap from 10 to 15 teams!

I suspect there was over 100 people on site at this event, inc players, ref, and those who wanted to take part

The players made for a great atmosphere and it was a welcomed sight to see the Holmbush tournament safe zone full.

Game play was good, with fields that had changed since we last used them in November, so walking the fields was crucial.

Another exciting development was the amount of newer teams that we saw at this event. Marcus from the Preds event commented on this - Video to follow

If you're interested in playing one of these events, I would certainly say its worth it. The event had teams making 3+ hour long drives to come down and from what I heard they had a great time!!

I will be adding more to this post in regards to scores when they have been released.

A lot of time and effort must have gone into this to how smooth the day went and how well organised it was well worth the five hour drive

Ok James.
With two fields required due to an increase in teams I was asked if I knew any decent refs to help run the event, I said no I didn't but I could do it. (joke)
The rules and formats for the events have been changed as the events have progressed to the stage where the series has now adopted Millennium ramping and rate of fire alongside proper old school scoring systems.
Games were spread across two fields to try and mix up the games for the players however I think this still needs work as all the PRO division games were run on field 1.
Games ran well with teams aware of where the fields were on the schedule so little to no lost time chasing after players for the refs.
Great atmosphere in the pits and in the fields, refs were instructed to have minimal impact on games wherever possible, time keeping and score recording being out main duties during the morning.
A few novice teams and players fell foul of a rule or two but we took the time to explain the calls and the penalties handed out.
Everyone who I spoke to said they had enjoyed the event and would be back at the next round and beyond.
Frankly I enjoyed the event and was reffing all day.

I'd agree with Marco to some extent, 1st field was much better than the 2nd, maybe they should of been rotated a bit better?
or different fields as the lower one is a bit crap tbh.
Marshalling was pretty good, saw a few one 4 ones on the newbies which were a bit harsh but across the board it was consistent,
Non playing Players so far down on the side-line was a bit confusing especially as there was no armbands in use at some point of play it was difficult to see if they were in the game or not.

Was Great to catch up with some old faces and the setup was very professional and well run, a lot of effort was put in.

1 thing that would be nice is a paint vendor on site as if like us we were getting loads of breaks (too cold for tourney grade) there wasn't an option to purchase anything different

What's impressive about this is that you have built this up from nothing, with only a handful of teams to begin with and with no major event sponsors.
