For a new player buy an ego 11 at 300-375 and chuck a rotor on the top for 75-100 quid. Job done. Rock solid reliability.
Thanks, i'll be bearing this in mind as well! When do Planet Eclipse normally release new gear - is it a regular point in the year?

It used to be but now they update models much less frequently since moving to the LV and Geo platforms. Theres meant to be a new marker in the works for world cup rumour has it. Every ego after the ego 7 has felt very similar to me so if the ego 8 is in good condition and the right price it would serve just as well. LV1 is a different kettle of fish but it's outside the price range of the OP

The bottle is a key bit. Only word of advice (I'm sure others can comment) but when I sent my first bottle off for testing I sent it just as 1st class. Turns out Royal Fail threw it over a fence because they couldn't get a response. It destroyed the reg so I had to pay for that too but the testers were kind enough to fit it for free but it was an additional £50...hindsight suggests that £10 max for recorded delivery is worth it!
Two points to note there:
1) Postal regulations have changed and cylinders are now prohibited from many methods of postage. Check the restricted and prohibited item lists of a carrier before selecting a method
2) always assume a package is going to be kicked all the way to the destination. Package items carefully & make sure the insurance is appropriate

Very true on #2 and for #1, this was about 8 years ago! Great info though, had no idea.

Hpac (armourlite)
They are the people who provide air systems to most sites & events
It's much easier to hand it over in person which avoids worries in the post and also saves money
Ask your local site/ shop if they can act as go betweens
Failing that, dive shops can also arrange with an idest centre
