Proto Rail Solenoid

Hi

Played a tournament today and my 2011 Rail failed on me half way through - the bolt is travelling about half the distance that it should, resulting in paintballs dribbling out the end of the barrel or sticking.

I tried cleaning and re-lubing the bolt, replacing the O-rings, and eventually swapped the entire bolt assembly with a known good (and nearly new) Rail.

It was suggested that the solenoid is a weak point on the Rail and that it would be consistent with the symptoms. I bought my marker second hand last spring and have a Dye RMA form recording that the solenoid and board were replaced February 2013 to solve "solenoid port on board or solenoid harness issue + leak through bolt".

Is it likely that the solenoid has failed again already? If so, is there a Dye / Proto parts supplier in the UK that I could order a new solenoid from? Or should I go to Dye directly?

Thanks
Ben

Found the solenoid on Dye's site - ~£50 for the part, plus ~£20 shipping!

I can't really justify spending £70 to maybe fix a marker that has never been that reliable. Is there any way to confirm whether it is the solenoid that is faulty without swapping it with another one?

Hi,
your problem can be caused by the solenoid, but befor you buy a new one try fresh batteries or to set up the dwell a bit higher.
If its not the batterie or the dwell i can offer you to send me your rail and i will check and repair it for you.
You can also contact me dirctly check@dyeprecision.com (everyone with dye or proto problems, contact me!)

Thanks for getting in touch. I've bought an Ego 11 now, but I still have the Rail as a spare. A new battery did improve things for it, I don't think that the aftermarket O-rings are doing it many favours either as it seems to need a lot of lube to keep them from drying. I'll try turning the dwell up on it next time I use it too. How much higher would you recommend? (it's on factory settings at the moment).
