hi everyone I'm new to paintball I've only played twice so far but I have really enjoyed it both times, but I'm looking for some help with gear choice and places to play , so far I've played at centres like delta force I've read about walkons and these sound better as you don't get stung for paint and can use your own stuff , I've bought a dye i3 mask as I didn't like the uncomfortable rental ones and with the advice I got from mike at techpb I have also bought a halo too hopper ad most of the places near me are woodsball.

so my first question is help with which marker to buy and so on I spoke to a man in lips and he told me about the etha and the etek , but what are peoples opinons on proto rails?, valken protons, empire minis and other such markers in that price range.

the second is tank size I see a lot of people use a 68/4500 tank but I read on a couple of websites that at they're walkons the do air refills but only to 3000psi so if I had a bigger tank is that a problem?

an third where to play these walkon games, I live in new eltham south east London , a friend of mine said he used to play at ruxley but I've looked on the internet and It doesn't sound like the ones I've found are a walkon type so just after a bit of help .

thanks

ross

Welcome to the Forum!

You've provided a lot of information there... but could you confirm what you are interested in doing? For example is it woodsball / walkons or are you interested in the sup'air (tournie) paintball

That selection is going to influence your preferences and therefore purchases

As you rightly recognised a decent mask is the first requirement, but the next step will really depend on your budget, how frequently you want to play etc

hi thanks for the welcome so far I've only played woodsball but I would like to try speedball (sup air) and see how I get on and a couple of times a month and budget wise erm, I don't mind spending up to 350 for a marker, I want something that is a good quality, reliable although I could go to maybe 450 but I don't want to be the guy with all the gear and no idea haha.

thanks

oh and the reason I am looking at the tournament style marker is that they are supposedly quitter, more efficient and lighter and seeing as I'm not really into the whole mil-sim style guns.

thanks

Whereabouts are you based & do you have transport?

Walkons are a good next step - get the best price on paint and meet lots of people who can give you advice and show you their gear enabling you to try some things out
Support your local sites - and for starters have a look at the map, it does not show everywhere but may show you places you did not know were around you

https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zdRfWqkdmKGw.kbddocq_JqUY

If your in the midlands or can travel then consider going to cpps round 3 (paintball tournament-21/22 June) and looking around, or paintfest (a real paintball festival 25-27 July)

Also checkout the paintball calendar
http://www.paintballcalendar.co.uk
There are events accross the uk to meet all tastes

The i3 & a halo too are decent starters

Guns - no comment on specifics. Keep your eye open and see as many as you can
You are right to be open for the 'paintball specific' speedball / tournament style gun, it's all paintball and one of these will be a good all rounder

Air - If you go for a fibre 4500psi cylinder then it will work on any fill (except co2 of course)
If only 3000psi is available then that's fine
But at around £150 or new, or £80 secondhand (despite the age they mistily go around that price) value for money an aluminium 3000psi cylinder wins

So either:
save your money for a gun and playing and go for a standard aluminium 3000psi cylinder for £30 or £40

Or research and get the feel of a few cylinders before committing money. An ergonomic size/shape for you gives comfort and a natural feel.

If at an event /site offering 4500psi fills you can then have the benefit of extra pressure fills

I'm using my phone which is why I failed to notice you had said where you are!

Campaign definatley do walkons and events
(It was also the site used by 'mission paintball' back in the day and is occasionally repeated late at night.
I was zapped by aliens in 'how to survive a disaster movie' filmed there beside the building used for rescues in 'mission paintball')

Also consider going out to welwyn garden city to the lips paintball shop

If you're going to be going speedball (sup'air) then I'd go for an ego or a geo! I personally was told to avoid mini's.

Geos/Egos are easy to fix, easy to maintain, very rarely get problems and when you do its 90% the battery and a lot of people will be able to help you with them. You can usually find planet eclipse techs that will look at your gun for free usually too and help you out if it is broken.

Plus you can always use it at woodsball ... but possibly not use a woodsball marker at speedball.

My main reason for getting a tournament style is that I can use it everywhere.

Thanks
