Unless it's 2 years to the next test, (and which test) with years left I would disagree on an £80 valuation based on the available info
You can buy a new cylinder & regulator for about £150 with 15 years of life, just add 2 tests

So £80 for 2 remaining years means £40 per year
(Times that by 15 and it's a £600 lifetime bottle
Or if they are 3 years old then say:
£150 plus 2 tests at around £25 = £200
Divide by 15, multiply by 13 = £173.33
Deduct the 2 tests not yet taken = £123.33

Then adjust down for second hand value, or up for something special

If they have only 2 years left then £80 is a high estimate, if they are only 3 years old then £80 is a bargain

tommikka this is a nice calculation and one way of arriving at the price..:)

It is what people are prepaid to pay in the current market and availability at that time... most people look back a few sales see what they have been selling for and then decided what they are worth....

£80-£90 each with the regs in good condition.
I would go with NitroBall's guide on price as he is Wise Master on the Art of spotting a bargain ;)

Yes - there's often a big difference in 'depreciation value' which is what my calculation realy is, and the 'worth' of what people are willing to play / desperation of the seller to sell.

If they are 2 years old then the chances are probably slim of the seller getting more than £80/£90 which are the average listed prices of fibre cylinders no matter what age. It's the hit the seller takes for shifting 'nearly' new.

If they only have 2 years left then that's part of my 'crusade' for new players that can get excited about a fibre because it's best and around half price of a new one.

Ps - if they are only 2 years old, and the seller is not desperate to sell then I would say ask for more bringing the asking price closer to the depriciated value but remembering to allow for the postage and fees to be taken into account, say around £100 - £120 all in, (but £120 doesn't allow much second hand saving) then consider the offers

If keen for a fast sale then £90 should see someone taking it up quickly

Tom, do not forget the tax and Vat which the original purchase will take a knock.

Also, bottles bought new from a supplier/shop will not have a full 5 years use before the first test. This will depend how long the item has been sat on the shelf. Years ago, i have bought bottles with only 2 years left before the first test.

Your calculations for price would be spot on if people had them made to order, and collected straight from the factory on completion, but real time does not work that way. People will pay and sell what they are prepared. Everyone has a number, a budget.

Yes - but including VAT the average new fibre cylinder costs £150, including Guerrillas as described above. The difference on top will be postage if its ordered as opposed to bought from the shop or at an event.

Yes, you wouldn't get the full 5 years / 60 months out of a cylinder, but to charge full price for 2 year old stock is a bit naughty. I've also bought old cylinders from new, but at a discounted price. (Heavily discounted, but I even had the cheek to look at every bottle for the dates and there were two batches with about 6 months difference, so I took the newest)

My calculation is just a guide, and its standard asset depriciation but excluding residual value. (The full calculation should take into account scrap value, a secondhand value if planning to offload or any disposal costs).
Also the retest price will vary depending on the circumstances of how the individual gets their testing done.

Its right that secondhand cylinders tend to go at £80 - £90, but if this were a full sale thread it would have all the dates, then people can decide for themselves. You could in theory buy a cylinder for £80, use it for a year and if someones willing to buy it for the price then sell it on for £80 thus getting free use, or you could buy one for £80 and have it become worthless a year later (unless you sell the regulator)

I doubt we are going to agree, but just accept that 'worth' and 'what you might get someone to pay' can be two different things
