There doesn't seem to have been a great deal of chat on here recently, so I'm not sure if this will get much of a response, if in fact any but I might as well try!
Okay, so this year me and the rest of my team have decided to make the jump and try to play 2 MS events. For a variety of reasons (date clashes and finances), we're planning on playing the latter two dates: Campaign Cup (4-6 July) and World Cup (26-28th September). Now I know there's probably a lot of people who will just say "don't go, it's a waste of money!" Honestly, thanks for taking the time to read this but that's not the help/advice I'm looking for. We're doing this as much for the experience as anything...
RIGHT, so my real questions are about D3 (now Open Division 2) Raceto2. Having never attended an MS event before, I was hoping someone could advise me on a few things. So firstly, how many games should we expect to play? Am I right in thinking that OD2/D3 will only be played on the Saturday/Sunday? Paint wise, I know it's always the million dollar question, but just roughly, budgeting for 25/30 cases max. Too much? Too little?
Assuming that OD2 is only on the weekend, do we need to be there to register on the Friday or something? Or could we theoretically just rock up Saturday and register then? I doubt we'll be planning on training (not even sure if that's on offer from MS?) as we'll mostly use CPPS to get our heads round the layouts. We also probably couldn't afford it. I know each player needs an ID card. Does this need to be done at our first event? Or can I add players to my roster between events? My plan was to take 7 players and try and persuade an 8th person to come with us to coach. Will that be sufficient enough? If the 8th person was to help in the pits, they'd need an ID card, correct? But if they were just there to coach, they wouldn't?
Accommodation wise, do people tend to just go for what's on offer from the MS? Or look for your own dodgey, dingey, cheap motel?
Travelling. Now this is the big question for us. Coming from Edinburgh, everywhere seems far away. Now for CC, I'd be tempted just to drive the whole way down on the Thursday, relax for the Friday, play the weekend then back up the Monday. Assuming WC is somewhere along the lines of where it's been previously, i.e. Paris, anyone got any idea if it's better/cheaper to drive/ferry, drive/eurotunnel, train all the way or fly? I understand no one will be able to give me guaranteed best figures, but any guidance/advice on this matter would be appreciated. I'm somewhat weary about flying with 7 guns and 7 tanks...
And I guess just finally, is there anything I've missed out? I know the entry fees are hefty and have to be paid in advance, and that paint is obviously vendor only (I'm working on that) but I think apart from that, I've got everything... If you've got this far, thank you for reading this much and I hope that if you've played D3 MS or really any level MS event before, you'll be willing to impart a bit of your mystic wisdom on to me. Honestly, any advice would be much appreciated. Don't want to travel all the way down and ruin the weekend because I've forgotten to sort something out!
Thanks again and of course, if you want to keep up with our travels when we do eventually go to an MS event, feel free to follow us on ye olde faceybee https://www.facebook.com/DinEidynPaintball
