Hi Guys,
Ive just convinced my buddy to get in on this new found paintball hobby of mine and was wondering what a good quality cheap mask was? I think he only wants to spend about £30-£40. He also needs a decent harness, with one of those slots for a remote thing (we have both been advised to use these on our milsim markers). Any ideas on make, type etc...

Thanks!

Mask wise, if he can stretch to 50-60quid get a second hand pair of I4's! But get him to try some on first. I got a cheap set of Proto el switch's and tbh don't work for me at all. Second hand pair of I4's perfect! Now as for harness's, you have a few choices get a tac vest(for milsim i'd advise it! Well worth their weight in gold!), or he could get a battlevest e.g. the empire battlevest.

I use a South African tactical vest from eBay. £26 job done. Fits everything in it including my air tank on a remote line on my back

Second hand masks are the way to go for starting out, as long as it is a thermal lense then it should be a good start. That way, it'll steam up much less, if at all!

If buying second hand for a mask budget for a new lens shortly afterwards, it all depends on the condition for scratches & the condition of the anti fog

The sly annexe is a reasonable cheap set of goggles, new ones will be in your budget.
Trying some goggles on is a must

is there anything else that thermal does bar that?

That's pretty much the reason for thermal lenses, however if you've tried playing on a colder day or in the rain without one, it soon becomes impossible to see. Not much point pulling the trigger loads if you can't see where you're aiming!

The thermal element of a lens is there to reduce fogging. There are other solutions but looking after a thermal lens is best

With secondhand goggles the presence of a thermal lens does not guarantee anti fogging - you don't know how good the lens still is until you try it

For any lens do not put anything on it but water and a microfibre (preferably a damp one to clean and a dry to finish)
When its anti fog treatments etc have failed then consider other treatments such as cat crap (the brand not the natural product)

If your goggles fog once then don't give up on them straight away, consider the weather conditions to see if you have been fair to them

I have a Proto Switch with regular lense, cost about £25 and is fine until it steams up. Pay £40 and get with the Thermal lense, otherwise he will just be paying £22 to upgrade it later.

As others have said, you can get a better mask for similar money second hand, but I just don't fancy using a second hand mask knowing how much I sweat in mine...
