Hi folks. I used to play a lot in the late nineties and early bough ties. Haven't played in 6 or 7 years now. Consequently I've not kept up with the latest tech or marker manufacturers. I dug out my old Angel LCD for which I can't find the charger and I'm pretty sure I would be to change out the battery cell anyway so I'm thinking of buying a new marker. Any advice? Doesn't need to be top of the line but something with eyes would be good. I've only ever had experience of WDP markers who no longer manufacture, otherswise I would have gone with something like an A1 but I'm worried about getting spares. What do people suggest?

Thanks

Personally, I would look into planet eclipse markers. I've owned a couple and they've never let me down, not to mention their customer service is top notch should you ever need it. The markers are very reliable and easy to use, not a lot you would have to worry about with them. I'm not sure what kind of budget you had in mind but have a look at the 'Etha' and 'etek4' both brilliant markers minus the celebrity price tag ;)

Long story short, right here we go.

Electro's came out, as you know. They got better and better, and people found ways to make them go ballistic and they were set on "semi auto". People shooting 17bps wasnt uncommon. So they started after a while, to regulate the bps of guns to make things safer, fairer with a view of promoting more moves etc. Guns went from 15bps max, then to 15bps ramping (basically, pull the trigger 4bps and it goes full auto if you maintain it) , then 12bps, then 10bps.

Meanwhile, Smart Parts were starting to churn out loads of starter electro markers. Basically, a simple body, with a simple board in the grip gun, and sold it at half the cost of a top end gun. BUT, the thing is, they werent a bad gun at all. They shot paint, and fast. They werent perfect, but you had £400 you didnt spend and could buy better paint. And other companies caught on, and now produce decent shooting guns, for half the price. You dont get the nice barrel kit, you dont get the uber bling anno job and super nice milling or whatever, but they are all far from ugly, and even Pro teams are shooting some of these guns, and winning major pro events aswell.

So anyway, theres "posh" electros, and there are "entry" electros , and these days, with everything regulated to 10.5 balls per second, you dont need that super nice £1000 marker. You can get a really good brand new gun for £300 -£400.

For example Ego LV1 £1080

http://shop.planeteclipse.com/product.asp?id=4672

Or the Etek 4 £465

http://shop.planeteclipse.com/product.asp?id=4503

Both guns still shoot 10.5bps at the same velocity.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. So i was down at the NPF at the weekend, and i think i might look into something like an AXE or ETEK4 or similarly priced mid ranged. Although im guessing a second hand invert mini could be picked up for about £120. Which is tempting. Since theres been a come down on BPS (back when i was playing BPS was all everyone seemed to care about) im guessing pretty much all electro markers are capable of hitting 10bps. And velocity is usually regulated by whatever the site chrono limit is - so all should be able to manage 280-300 fps. Likewise most sites dont let you bring your own paint with you, so you're limited there by whatever they happen to be selling on the day. Assuming they wont be using super fragile tourney paint - so i' hope most markers could shoot it fine, without having to go for something like an ego or dm12 - as stunning as they look.

Looks like im also going to be needing a new tank. The DOT on mine had expired by 4 days and needs retesting. But it was born in 2000 so its only got 2 years on its life left anyway (its a fiber wrap), so im not sure its worth getting retested. Looks like i'll be having to make the decision between a new carbon fiber wrap tank or a steel tank. I've seen the few posts with regards to the weight differences and overall cost differences and i think i might go for a steel one just for the amount im probably going to end up playing (friendly rec-ball).

Question, do any marker setups require a low pressure reg setup at the moment as my reg is set for high pressure - just wondering if theres anything i should be looking out for.

Appreciate all the helpful feedback guys!

Just a heads up, if your tank is DOT tested then you shouldn't be using it in the uk, some sites you can get away with it at, but others can be very strict. Make sure that if you pick up a new tank that it is Pi stamped. :)
