The merits & inconveniences of different markers are covered in detail on other threads. If you use the search bar (top right of the web page) it will bring up the relevant threads to your query.
It is however personal preference on feel of the marker in your hand & your location to the relevant gun techs vs ability to maintain it that normally settle the debate...

I have only maintained my X7 with exernal clean ups, occasional maintenance and it has been handed to tippmann tech support at events twice
The first time the ratchet (original style) was replaced with a metal one, this subsequently became standard. The second time in extreme temperatures at sennybridge when tippmann were not officially teching, but we had some small talk and he offered to look it over, and finally assessed it as julst in need of a cleanup and service
(The first time was at the old nvs venue, and was before the 007 game so I think probably 2006. 2 services in 7 years is not excessive maintenance )
