To be honest I think the '20 post' rule has backfired a bit. Every time I look at the newbie forum the top 20 threads all have the last reply from a new user along the lines of "Great idea lol!" It doesn't deter anyone and generates spam and more work for the mods. It would be far better to have the classifieds only visible to members who have been here for at least a month. Zero mod intervention required and no spam generated.

Yes, I see what you're saying however the only downside to that is that we are trying to grow the membership as well. Classifieds here generates more footfall than the rest of the forum combined and if people think they have to wait a month then they won't register. Or they'll register, realise they have to wait a month then off somewhere else and probably not come back.

It's never going to be a perfect system, all we can do is hope to come up with new idea like yours, or take and idea and modify it to suit.

Good point - restricting access doesn't really lend itself to attracting new users :)

To be honest for those of us who just play the game and don't spend hours talking about it, the 20 posts before you can use the classifieds, which is the only thing of any real practical use, is bloody annoying. The whole reason for the spams is because people want to buy kit and play, not talk all day!

The rest of the forum may be useless to you until your marker springs a mystery leak, you need a lift, you need information, you left your favourite mask at an event etc then it will be the greatest resource you ever found.

I have something that I'd like to say (rare I know ;))
Well, before returning to the UK in September(ish) last year, I was living in the USA and Canada, where the main forum used is the famous PB Nation. Not that PB Nation is a bad forum, but it is not nearly as well moderated. The rules are not fully enforced. The first time I used the BST on that forum, I got scammed. Luckily I paid the paypal fees and got my money back, but the mods were less than helpful, they basically said "you bought it, so you're screwed".
We are EXTREMELY lucky on this forum to have moderators who care so much for their members. They're not putting this 20 post minimum because they're mean or bored or something, they're doing it to PROTECT the members. Come on guys, you can't post 20 times? Look at Cook$ 's "Other Hobbies" thread, surely you have another hobby/sport etc that you're interested in? you can discuss it there! I made a post about the British Army and if they should upgrade the standard rifle, everyone has something they can talk about, it doesn't have to be a technical issue or anything, as long as its somewhat constructive and topic, then why does it matter? 20 posts is nothing guys. It's a rule to help protect sellers/buyers. My 2p.
Edit: I'd also like to say that I've done at least 20 or 30 transactions on here (lost count) and i've only had one issue where I shipped a Pro flex and it took a long time to arrive. It was Royal Mail's fault, no one elses. The moderators do a fantastic job on here and I for one appreciate the amazing job they do.
