Hi guys,

My new marker has just landed in the UK,
I have been sent a form by UPS and it asks if the marker is a firearm??
Now what is the answer I need??
I think technically its not so I should cross it out ??

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Phil... I've had the same issue before. I would take a look at the UKPSF site which clearly explains the UK Law and paintball. Add the relevant points on the form, sign and send it back to UPS.

Always use the term paintball marker, not gun, weapon or firearm

What marker is it? It is easier to explain tournie markers than Milsim markers

We had this on the border of Germany last mills, don't ever call it a paintball gun always marker. Then again Germany has so crazy laws on paintball

the form is so counter intuitive the questions try to force you to say its a firearm, all I get to fill in is the last paragraph saying its a paintball marker deal with it lol

A G6R is clearly a tournie marker... the milsim can look took realistic, same with antique guns etc. UPS seem to be the strictest on this, but it does depend on what the shipper puts on the shipping manifest

Can I also add that you should consider joining the UKPSF... for a nominal annual fee they help represent paintball.

Maybe without their info, you could have lost your marker. That's got to be worth paying the £15 to join the UKPSF...

The questionarres are sent out 99% of the time without the box being opened at all, (and usually by the couriers and not actually customs), its prompted by the declaration the sender put on it. On occasion x-ray scanning may prompt it.

The word 'gun' does not have to be avoided - guns are legal in the UK, and no matter how much people say 'marker' its still a gun in many peoples eyes. However avoiding the word gun will avoid the knee jerk reaction.

Does the questionairre lead its questions along the lines of firearm, replica firearm etc? These are to clarify if its a firearm requireing a licence, legally deactivated firearm, airsoft / BB gun that is a RIF and requires the skirmisher defence under the VCRA, another exemption or another defence.

Answer yes/no to the appropriate questions, and add in the final remarks that it is a paintball marker.
The courier decides if your answers are good enough for it to be satisfied that they have fulfilled their responsibilities
They 'declare' it to customs, customs decide if they have any interest
The box may or may not be opened to verify
Then it gets sent on to you - with or without an import VAT bill
