This is an interesting debate and both sides have merit:
The mods - These people give up there own time to help us have a community PART of which is the classified section, now these people do not get paid they rarely get thanks but they do a damn good job. It is a mods duty to protect members of the community and act in its best interest so we have to take the actions of a mod or the mod team in good faith in all circumstance, if you cannot do this then there are other communities out there for you.
The newer members - Many of these only want to buy and sell and while not all scammers are new members i would ask these newer people to look at the MAJORITY (vast majority) of cases where they were new members. The new rules will not stop all scams, nothing will but they will remove these instances, please understand no one is accusing you of anything dishonest or trying to take anything away from you just asking for a chance to get to know you and to give you a chance to EARN trust which is of far greater value than trust that has just been assumed.
I myself have a very low post count because when i joined i was involved for a little while (years ago) before my real life took hold and i could no longer participate until very recently (i am just now trying to re kit up) however that said i would urge these new members to look at the few historic posts i did have because i tried to do something for the community. I built, maintained and hosted a chat room for no charge with no advertising for the members of this community for a period of time. Why? because i wanted to give back, the result did not matter i tried to give back, why not try and think of a discussion point to give back? or an idea like mine? Maybe suggest an event?
As for my opinion on the new rules, funnily enough i dont mind the 20 post rule as this is my 22nd and none of my posts could be considered spam as 20 were made years before these rules went in none the less however i would personally suggest a slightly different approach:
Break this down the majority of scams from what i read (correct me if i am wrong by all means) are Sellers, now this does not mean buyers do not scam because they have just as much ability through pay pal claims HOWEVER it is a lower risk none the less looking at trends, why not keep requirements but make it slightly different for buyers and sellers?
To sell some kit where the biggest risk is placed keep the post limit at 20 or even double it to 40
BUT
To buy kit have the post limit at half of this so currently 10 or if the post count was doubled for selling then at 20 because after all the only thing a seller can do is a pay pal dispute and if the seller replies to this dispute then it can be stopped in most cases with the production of a postage receipt which i would hope all good sellers would keep just in case.
Just my opinion and i think it would appease most parties or at least go a long way to doing so while still managing the risk involved in the classified section and also protecting the members of this community but at the same time making it a bit more accessible for newer members.
My apologies if i have offended any who may not agree with my views however i have tried to keep them objective and given constructive suggestions based on my opinion rather than just moaning.
Regards,
Steve
