Hi im planing to work as a marshal at a local field i play at and i was just wondering what are the discounts like at most fields when you ref on pbnation i think some people said all they have to pay for is the paint at close to shop bought prices is that normal i normally only use about 500 paintballs so that could mean i would only have to pay £5/£10 depending on what paint they use.

Things will vary. You will get a staff discount, what that equates to depends on the site

You could expect to be able to buy equipment from the sites wholesale suppliers either at cost or a little over.
You may get the option to buy paint at cost, but may not

At a site we used for our first event we took no income and just ran the game for the fun. It was purely a punter site and did not run walkons, but was a good site. We became associated with the site and gained the piviledge of no green fees and discounted paint

One of the Marshall's once joked that he should join the team in name only for the discount.
There was a punter price and a Marshall price, we thought we were getting the marshal price but their price was still high compared to us or what you would expect for walkons

If you want to be a Marshall to be around paintball and get paid then do so, don't just do it for the possible perks. That is the first stage of being a bored Marshall

Paints cheap enough as it is. How much discount would you need on £30 box of paint

At my site you pay punter prices its aimed at new players so the prices are quite inflated like £20 for entry plus 300 paintballs £7 for 100 extra paintballs though i have a membership with them so i get a discounts you can play walkons there but you have to buy ether 1000 or 2000 paintballs minimum and i never shoot that much so its just wasted i could try buying paintballs and selling the rest i dont need of to other people playing there but im not sure how happy they would be about that.

Paintball punter prices exist for a reason. This is the core business of paintball and without the occasional once or twice a year punter players turning up each week there would be no paintball sites. The prices pay for everything - rent, council rates, advertising, building materials, staff on the day (Marshall's, counter staff etc) and staff maintaining the site, changing game zones etc, equipment, cleaning, electricity, water, toilets - plumbed or portaloo ........ The list goes on

Under no circumstances are you to sell on a 'black market basis' to other players. This is an ideal way to get yourself banned. You can buy with friends.

I always say play to your pocket - playing a punter game I used to start with 1000 paintballs and then decide later in the day if I needed more and buy another 1000 shared with a mate. So 1500 each for the day bought at the optimum punter price of 1000 at a time (around £50 so we paid £75 for paint)
Playing walkons I would take a case (I'm not usually a high shot bling flinger - but at a scenario recently I thought my gun had a problem in the first few seconds as I hadn't run my fingers so fast for years and had emptied the hopper!)

If you are not a high shooter then weigh up the figures. 1000 paintballs is usually the optimum rate per ball, but will leave you with an excess. 500 is the next optimum, but again leaves you an excess
You have 2 choices - ask for an entry price with 500 or put up with paying the price per 100
It costs the site more to have staff dishing out a pot worth at a time and this is reflected in the cost

Don't expect anything.. Not every site runs the same.

I Marshall at my local site, but I do this for cash, i don't receive discounts on anything for marshalling.

My discounts are purely based on myself been an annual member on site, thus getting cheaper paint rates. And also the fact that I play for the site team, again giving me access to cheaper paint rates for events.

Don't make discounts on paint your sole purpose for reffing - do it because you enjoy paintball.

Also, what players post on the 'nation is 99% BS.

As has already been stated, sites price their paint so that they can stay in business - it's hard work running a site.
