There is an alternative - verify yourself with the mods for a fee or become a platinum member for a fee
Is this verification implemented? I recall seeing (as I very briefly scanned thread) someone saying it would be done at some point, but not that it was already available? Also, both of these involve monetary transactions - what about a more formalized "vouch" system similar to the existing requirement on a seller, but for all involved in trading? Where you can only vouch for someone if you have already gained posting privileges in the classified section perhaps.

That is an option, but has not been selected by the mods of this forum.

Vouches are used in UKScenario, a new member can buy but cannot sell without a vouch from an 'established' member. The vouch shoudl be from someone who actualy knows the new member so that they are providing a point of contact / guarantor of the new member.
This takes a lot of effort by the forum mods reminding prospective sellers of the rules. Sometimes they give a gentle reminder and allow some time for the rules to be complied with, e.g. to let the vouch get posted, and to enforce other rules such as a 'proof' photo with the username & date. If the rules are not complied with in a reasonable time, or the new member does not seem to have any intent to read the rules and comply then the sales post is edited out with details of the rules that need to be complied with.

A vouch from someone who has just put in over 10 posts would not realy carry a lot of weight, it would be a new possibly unknown member who is willing to contribute a little effort to making posts then vouching for a new unknown member who does not wish to contribute.

The mods have brought in a system in which the forum permissions system controls the ability to create a classifieds post, and the monitoring element comes in for the mods to check for those new members who just put in 10 quick random spam posts just to gain access.
The mods want people to contribute to the forum and not just dive in for quick sales. 10 general posts don't take extreme effort.

Observed. Merely suggesting alternatives - as somebody attempting to be constructive in the community. Nobody is under any obligation to agree with me or act upon them. The problem of dodgy dealings in classified ads is something which affects all members of the community who wish to trade, so in my opinion all such members should be able to voice their thoughts. It's up to the mods which ideas, if any, they take on.

Fully agree, 10 posts wouldn't carry a lot of weight. Could be implemented as a couple of hundred, a thousand, whatever mods / the community felt was sufficient to have some gravitas.

10 posts is not the end of the world, no - but ironically I'd be struggling for them if it weren't for this thread :) And as posts above are indicating, there is a rise in the number of pointless, if not outright spam posts as people attempt to clear this limit. There must be a better way to do it, so the more suggestions people have, the more likely that is to be found. After all, the whole point of a public forum website is open discussion.

You're probably right. This is the easiest way for us to soft through the dross at the minute though, anyone speed posting sticks out like a sore thumb. The downside is more work for the mods.

Cook$ is correct, you should stick around. You clearly spent time listening at school, you seem sensible and witty in your own way. Pray to God above you don't end up a Mod :D

good idea.... bit frustrating when your new and see something you want though
Or when you're new and have some good stuff you legitimately want to sell ASAP! But I do very much get why the system is in place, and it is a good method to weed out those looking to con people from those that evidently are/have been paintballers

I am genuinely loving the fact that the threads have somewhat turned on their heads.

From the beginning threads of "omg..means i can't sell my marker which shootz lazers!...totally unfair!"

to the current "the mods have thought this through haven't they?...it's not helpful for me but i understand"

All i can say is thank god i'm not a mod... the amount of threads on this forum since the change has soared beyond belief. When i first started using the forum I could mark all as read one day, read 6 threads the next and rinse and repeat. Nice to see the forum turning into a vibrant hub of discussion so no complaints from me.

I can see you guys hiring additional mods in the near future though :ROFLMAO:
