Rocket-propelled Smoke Gernades?

Well, searching across the net again has once again led me to something interesting - if slightly different.

Haven't used one of those but at Stalingrad held at Skirmish Bullswood we use smoke grenades with a charge on the back to fire them from cannons and mortars.

Why do the words firey death spring to mind, a smoke grenade led to the most amusing part of a big game for me when the tinder dry ground caught fire. Ref's trying to stop play by alternately shouting "stop shooting" and "fire"...
