Hi guys. I'm looking at getting into paintball and buying my own marker. Ideally looking to spend under £300. A friend recommend a proto rail. Would this be a good choice, if not what do you recommend? Thanks :)

do you need a tank, mask, hopper etc? or 300 for just the marker?
Sorry should really make myself clear - I was being lazy as it takes ages to type on my tablet :)

In short, i've recently been paintballing a few times and looking to play pretty regularly. I've been playing a mix of woodsball & speedball. Money isn't too much of an issue, but ideally I want a good all round marker, that's good value for money, have the potential to upgrade in the future & relatively easy to maintain. I would happily spend £300 only on a marker if its suitable. I am currently gearless so will need to buy everything though.

empire axe is a good marker and has many upgrades or you could buy a etek 3 / 4. there is a few upgrades for the etek 3 to make it like a etek 4 or you could just buy the etek 4 and save doing the upgrades. the eteks are easier to maintain than the axe so for somebody newer it might be easier to get a etek. i have had the etek 4 but not a axe so i cant say personally whats better but there is many videos on youtube covering both markers.

Ive got a rail and for a beginner its a very good marker, its quiet, very accurate and very simple to maintain. The only issue being that if you want to contend with the bigger boys then you do need to spend money upgrading it. The absolute must for it is a new barrel because the stock one is only 12inches. The next upgrade would be a clamping feed neck and an OOPS ASA. And finally youd want to change the braided air hose to a macroline. Once all this is done youre sitting on a very tight marker but id suggest for the extra money youd spend upgrading it you could get an Invert Mini, which are just under the 300 marker new and half that second hand. They'll put you on a decent playing level against most stuff you'll find. Also for 300 you may well find one of the older egos second hand and from my experience egos are untouchable.

Have you thought about the Empire Mini, its cheaper than the Axe although has basically the same specs and as far as i know, its as upgradable. Its a great marker although if you can afford it defiantly go for the axe, its trigger frame is much more comfortable and its very reliable in comparison to other markers at that price range.

Stay away from mini's as they are quite tempremental have a look at the etek 3/4 or the ETHA or maybe even a second hand vanguard creed/demon, see what suites you best hope i helped.
