Need a little bit of help on a greatish vintage marker

I finally got myself a Splatmaster, but each time I try to cock it, the back does not lock in. Well it has about 10 times over about 200 tries, but obviously has internal injuries. Anyway before I open up this marker I need a step by step as I want it to work afterwards. I.E. no springs or bolts left over after the rebuild...

By the way, when I first played back in early 90's I used a Splat so is a personnal mid life crisis rebuild.... ;)

I might not use this often but will be great to have a working version in my collection alongside my WGP Ranger

Long time since I've had one of these apart.

I think your problem is going to be one of two things, either the sear or the thing that catches on it has worn away, if this is the case its probably terminal (or at least, given the chances of getting spares, it should be put out of its misery). You might be able to do some kind of fix with JB weld to build the sear back up.

The other possible reason is a spring in the trigger mechanism has gone / slipped so the sear isn't pushed up properly to engage when its cocked, if this is the fault it shouldn't be too hard to fix. Replace the spring.

Take it apart on a bed or a table with a towel on to try and minimise any bits flying off when you open it up, heres the original patent which should show you what to expect, interestingly (if you're sad like me) the patent had a spring feed and a gate to allow the balls through that are missing on the production model:

Let us know how you get on.

Seems to be just that the trigger spring had become unseated, now even more so. If anybody just had a spring flying over there head I appologise sincearly. If it hit you on the other hand, then it was somebody else......

The spring had become unseated. After a mamoth search I finally found it 2 counties away and after refitting it I just test fired it.

1 sparklett = 50 shots approx
Good grouping and fast flying. I wouldn't mind getting it on a chrono just to see how fast it fires after all these years.

Thank you Cannon Fodder for the needed help.

Ladies and getlemen Splatmaster #79726 is operational again

I predict 200 fps if your getting 50 shots, If the velocity is low you can try shimming the back spring.

Stick a wanted ad up for 10 round tubes, don't buy the rap4 ones with screw on lids, they won't work.

Add these to your reference list:
http://www.stockclasspaintball.com/articles/splatmaster_tech.shtml
http://www.splatmaster.s5.com/custom.html

These are the type of tubes you want:
http://www.paintball-discounters.com/i/143/10-round-paintball-tube-with-cap.htm
http://www.ansgear.com/PMI_10_Round_Paintball_Tube_w_Lid_p/pmi10roundtube.htm

Note the cap must come off, and there should be small ridges slightly down the neck.

8 ball pots are more common the 10s these days due to the TipX & Tiberius however they do crop up sometimes.
Even though you would not tend to expect to see them on retailers websites a call to each of them might get you lucky

PS - When you found your trigger spring was my one there as well? ;-)
