CPPS Round 1.

After bracing the elements........all of them in a day we emerged with minimal collateral damage and some results at the end of it. Big thanks to all the teams that travelled far and wide to the event....especially our European guests J

Due to a team dropping out we had to re write the schedule for the M7 format to make it flow. Rather than a prelim round and a playoff we had to use a three section seeded block of 5 teams. With that in mind the fairest way to score it was to award the placings in each group the same points and that is why we have 3 joint placings in each place. As the first two rounds are about acquiring ranking points for the mid season re seed into the Elite and second division it has little or no effect on the outcome in the long term.

The M5 Premier Race to 2 formats flowed a little better. Both A and B groups are split into 2 sections of 5 and across the 3 rounds the scores will be ranked with round 4 serving as a playoff/finals event.

The M5 Conference forms the entry level into the CPPS events. With a mix of fresh teams into the CPPS and some academy teams from the seasoned CPPS teams it was great to see the influx all playing with a smile.

Seems a bit of a joke to have three times in joint first, three in joint second and two in third.

Would have assumed point spread would be the defining factor (ok Each team didn't play the same group but this solution gives the advantage to a team that has a poor performance in event one and a good result in event two over a team that does the opersite).

Also how can you have 3 teams in first place and then the next in 2nd, surely it should be 1st 4th then 7th ect? If there was a play off it wouldn't have been possible to come second overall if you didn't finish top of your bracket?

Also has the scoring system changed from last year where it was as follows:

1.100
2.94
3.88
4.84
5.80
6.76
7.72

It is the fairest way otherwise you going off score difference and as you said teams have not yet played each other..
If we had just gone with putting all results into a table we would have had several joint places as well due to the score difference being exactly the same, no head to head result to go off so then into the realms of event ranking from 2011 or alphabetical order. Its not ideal but works in terms of a league format over a series of events. In an ideal world teams wouldnt drop out last minute or not turn up and we would be able to run the perfect tournament for everyone........as it is i have to do what is the fairest system for everyone.............im getting used to not pleasing everyone :(

Scoring is slightly different as it is taken from the CPL scoring system for Race to 4 and race to 2. Championship is based on SPL scoring. Both taken from Millennium ranking system.

Still doesn't account for 2 points:

A runner up in original group stage could never come second in the whole event (last year tge highest place would have been 4th).

If you have 3 teams on joint 1st you can't have another team in 2nd or third as effectively these spots are taken.

So the 'fairest' and most logical way would be to award the top three teams 100 points and first play,
The next three 72 points and 4th place ( based on the cpl score for a team placing 4th) then the next two teams 42 points 7th place and so forth till you get down to 16th.

Fair point.

But, last year we had play offs to give you a final placing. This event we couldnt so the teams have been rewarded for the position they came in there sub group.

We can argue the particualrs all day but that is how i see it as the fairest for all the teams involved.

It doesn't matter that their wasn't a play off stage if their had have been one only the teams who topped each group would play for the top spots so this reinforces my system.

Its all academic though as I'm sure you will stick to your original system.
