Could you not just have both tanks on you, only have one connected up via remote line, and once that first tank is out of air swap the line over to the other tank?

surely if the pressure is greater in bottle "two" then it would keep the fill nipple sealed until the bottle pressure drops below the fill whip pressure of 800psi?
If you wanted something that you could knock up in your back yard - why not just have the two bottles going to a common output (i.e. your remote link) with a couple of gas valves? Simple, although probably wouldn't handle much over 900PSI
A twin-set is sometimes used by divers, so it isn't that difficult, with some of the cylinders charged to 300 bar. The cylinder regs connect to a metal pipe, with the single line coming off it to the demand valve, or in your case, paintball reg.
To reduce strain on the cylinder regs & connecting metal pipe, a spacer is placed between the cylinders with metal bands around the cylinders to keep them together. You may need to manufacture these items yourself as I haven't seen this set-up using small cylinders eg 1.5 litre bottles. Have a look at some dive shop websites for a general idea of what's needed.

There is a 90 degree ASA adapter you can get from RAP4 which has a male and female ASA thread plus a self sealing nipple. It's designed so you put between your marker ASA and bottle, with the ability to then connect a remote line from a second bottle when the first is empty.
But...
If you fitted this onto the bottle end of a remote line with slide check (or better still a psiworx line) it would give you a nipple on the 800psi side of your reg. Therefore you could connect a standard remote line from a second bottle to this nipple and effectively feed 2 bottles into a single remote to your marker.
