Hey people as the titles states I am new and in need of some assistance in getting into this extremely enjoyable sport.

I have had a look at the stickies provided which are very helpfull, I am now looking for more specific advice towards maybe your experiences with different makes and general do's and dont's in paintball.

Masks- Your views and experiences with masks (what masks have you got?)
Hopper- is it loader or hopper  or both? lol sorry. Rough ideas on a decent loader/hopper to start off with ?
Tank- From the research ive done Guerrilla or pure energy seem to be the most popular tanks buy new and get 5 years or buy 2nd hand and maybe save money but get tested sooner?

Marker wise I am looking am the Eclipse ETek 3 Lt as it seems pretty reasonably priced and performs well. Is this a good marker? any ideas on a markers in same same price/performance range?

hey welcome to the sport :)

MASKS
having owned or worn most of the masks around nowadays i'd say that the most important things to me are the comfort and the lense system. if a mask isn't comfortable to wear then no matter what else is good about it it's not worth wearing. after playing in some of the most horrible conditions imagineable (thank you scotland), the quality of the lense in how well it retards condensation is a big plus to me. on top of this if a lense is easy to change it makes life much easier.
with that in mind my personal favourite masks are dye i4's, vforce grillz.
i4's: best lenses for not steaming up, easy to change. very low profile and comfortable
grillz: not as good as i4, but still great lenses for stopping steaming and also easy to change. slightly larger profile but softer than i4 and very badass looking!
sly profit: super comfortable and easy to change lenses. dual pane lenses the same as i4 so don't steam up easily, but harder to get a hold of lenses in the UK (not a huge concern)
JT proflex: most comfortable mask but lenses aren't great. ear protection is pretty rubbish but very customiseable mask for a unique look

LOADERS
there is no point in buying a low end loader because i can guarantee as soon as you get into the game you will need to upgrade. best things to look for are speed/consistency, ease of use and maintenance.
dye rotor: low ball capacity but completely toolless disassembly (so so simple to clean and rebuild), low profile and has an antijam system
empire prophecy: my personal favourite. same low profile as rotor but much larger capacity. sound activated, incredibly easy to change from lid to speedfeed. toolless disassembly but a little more complicated than the rotor. has antijam freeway and ripdrive for unjamming.
invert halo too: amazing loader for the price, sound activated, has antijam freeway system (i've never jammed paint in this). requires screwdriver to disassemble and change lids.

TANKS
generally it is a standard recommendation to get a carbon fibre 68ci 4500psi tank since buying anything less (like a 3000psi steel tank) is less comfortable, hold less air, is heavier. The regulator isnt a great concern as all regs nowadays are at a standard that is suitable no matter what level of paintball you play.
PMI are a slightly cheaper tank but are readily available at a cheap price but are a little heavier than the high end tanks. you will also find they are a little longer than other tanks
Guerilla: the lightest, retestable tanks available. they also offer the myth g2 reg which allows you to position the guage and fill nipple wherever you like which is great for getting a low profile setup.
Stako: best tanks around. they are the most expensive and have the shortest life of just 5 years with no retest. however they are so incredibly light and are a little shorter but fatter, and for me personally this makes them very comfortable. there are new 68 and 48 tanks being released soon so keep an eye out! you will need to buy a regulator seperately.
ninja: DO NOT BUY THIS TANK. although they are reknown for being great tanks they are not PI tested and since this is the requirement for using in the UK you cannot use it (legally) in the UK.

MARKERS
i always recommend etek for a first marker because they shoot great, are reliable as hell and keep up with any other high end gun.
other guns to consider probably second hand are: empire axe and Proto PMR
these guns are in a simillar price range and although of a slightly different design offer alot of great features. most guns nowadays offer the same good features so do your research on what gun you think you would like the most. the best thing to do if possible is to get out and shoot them and make a decision.
things to really make sure you look for are: eyes, on/off asa, clamping feedneck, ease of maintenance, adjustability. if guns aren't meeting these requirements then they probably aren't worth getting.
personally the best companies to go with are: planet eclipse, dye/proto, empire, vanguard. depending on your budget i'm sure you will find your ideal gun, but you won't go wrong with an etek3

hope all this helps, im sitting in the house bored and had nothing better to do so this should cover everything you need to know! :D

liam has written a lovely description above but i will do a little sum up of what i believe.
Loader- as soon as you really get into it you'll end up wanting a rotor i guarantee you (bar a few peeps who love the empire prophecy) and it is worth buying one now as then you'll never need to upgrade and it will feed faster than any gun will ever shoot so is perfect.
tank- depends on how big you are. The tanks which are the most popular i believe are the guerilla bottles as they are light ad have a mini reg s you can get very close to your gun. whatever tank you get i'd reccomend a 68/4500 as a great tank which will last you.
mask- i love the I4's and bought a pair as a newbie and have had no cause or need to change since, very small, light and easy to disassemble or change the lens (10 secs)
Etek's are very nice but for the smae price (2nd hand) you can buy a better gun which is very similar, i'd get an ego 9 for £350 as they are much better guns thatn an etek for £330 or so.
gd luck :)

Best advice anyone can give you Kyle is to get out to your local (ish) shop and try out a whole bunch of stuff. That is the ONLY way you will know if something feels right for you. This is especially important when buying a gun. Im lucky, I can pick up any gun and make it work for me, but some people are like a fish out of water if they have to change to another marker for some reason.

Loaders:

Cool3108 is saying you will want a DYE Rotor. This isnt necessarily true, and is a pretty wild statement to make :) of course, its a fantastic loader and can be considered one of the very best, but you dont NEED to get one. There are other loaders that will do just as good a job at half the price. Just maybe dont look as fancy, and you must use a screwdriver to dismantle. By all means, if you have the money, the Rotor or the Empire Prophecy will serve you well, but if you didnt want to spend a fortune, there are other perfectly adequate options. If you think about it, tournament guns are all limited to 10 balls per second, and even my old Revolution from 12 years ago would keep up the feed rate perfectly.

Masks.

There are many options, and many shops to buy from. The I4s are great, but the only one mentioned in this thread so far. At the top of this page you will find all the site sponsors. Feel free to click on the logos and check out all the mask options.

Guns.

You can buy a £1500 CSL EGO and treat it like sh*t and it will perform like an £80 gun. When you get a gun, best thing to do is LEARN HOW TO MAINTAIN IT. Search youtube for "how to service my etek", search p8ntballer or pbnation for hints and tips on how to keep it running sweet. Your simple maintenance will mean your gun will always work great. Oh and once its set up, don't bl00dy fiddle with it!

Loaders I'm not sure on. Except for the Rotor. As said it is a fantastic loader and I recommend it... except as Bolter said, it is expensive and you don't need that one. You can get a cheaper version and be just as satisfied.

As far as masks go, I love my E-Vents. A fair bit bigger than I4s, but they do offer more protection as my chin pokes out underneath the I4s if I breath through my mouth. As for steaming... I4s steam the least? Well my vents haven't steamed up once so yeah, there isn't much of an issue there. The best advice you'll get is try on several masks and find out what is best for you. A mask is probably about as personal any of your kit will get. Anyone can shoot any marker, but some people like X mask but another person hates it.

Marker: Etek is very good bang for your buck. It's reliable and shoots well, and you can get them at a flippin' good price 2nd hand.

Not actual shops... Although LIPS may have a retail shop, anyone able to confirm? Otherwise if you want to try some gear out then pop along to Bricket Wood on a saturday or sunday and if you ask nicely some people might let you try their equipment out.
