In a few discussions we had both in the tower and with organisation there has been some suggestions put forward to move towards live commentary on the CPL field.

What this will mean is that there will be a number of people commentating during the game. Of course the dialog would need to be kept to non-bias comments but it may include things like calling when a ref comes into for a penalty and keeping track of the body count. The kind of thing will be like "G1 goes to shockwave" and "Dynasty lose another player making it 4 on 2" that kind of stuff. There will be no calling as to where players are in the game unless they pull a move to eliminate someone and the other team know where they are eg "Jay Ford on the run through eliminating two players but now stuck in Dorito two blah blah"

The players I spoke to seemed to think that it wouldn't make much difference to them. So there is a suggestion to trail this in Germany.

So I put it to you guys to give me a yes or no and your comments.

It wouldn't work because some one some were down the line will say its gives the other team unfair advantage.

You made a bo bo when you were doing the icon tontons game by saying their might be a conspiracy for the two teams to get so many points to knock dynasty out.

Now they might of not even thought of that till you said it and if they did there would be another whole load of **** going round.

if any thing you should say if some one is doing a dead mans:)

The commentators will get blamed for stuff. There will be a whole lot of moaning from teams who lose.
Teams that lose usually blame everyone but themselves, the guns, paint, refs, etc. They will definitely blame the commentator if they feel he/she influenced the game. I have had this happen so many times. It just isn't worth it. Plus, if the commentator makes a mistake, he's in a world of hurt.

I voted 'absolutely not'. The only people that usually want to add commentary during the games are the commentators themselves. They just need to stick to post-point analysis and general announcing.

I'm assuming that the commentary would be for the benifit of the crowd, as such could the speakers not be directed in a way to have as little effect on the field as possible?

Most teams would be focusing on their coach's voice anyway (one would assume) so some guy in a tower rabbiting on deep in the background would have little effect.

Yes this is the case, purely for spectators and it was the general opinion of the CPL teams I chatted to that it would have little effect. The speakers are always directed out of the field towards the crowd but on occasion people who end up standing near them turn them around as they are standing too close to them.

Missy - I agree with the blame thing, and I am a little unsure if people would see it as an annoyance. However it was a question asked by someone other than me! What was annoying for me personally during the 30 second breaks we had was the little time you got to mention things that did happen on the field in the previous point.

Markie - No it wasn't a boo boo - although it may have been seen as such. Some of the french HAD already discussed it - I had a very good source in the tower who was telling me the teams history and his opinion that it wouldn't happen, including doing the calculations to see if they could - which they couldn't. Glad someone heard it though.

That's the idea of the poll to find out what the players think of it rather than go with a whim.

yeah, It seems to me that your real problem is the turnaround. From what Johan said, it was just a few seconds. At the PSP you get 2mins between points, and that's enough time for a quick analysis, with something more in-depth at half-time, or during refs disputes etc. With just a few seconds - what's a commentator to do? I mean it just isn't enough time, for anything.

In reality each turn around was about 1.30 - 2 minutes but because 30 second to game on started as the last team left the field it seemed a lot shorter. It certainly was at change end points. It does however mean that long points give the waiting teams extra time.

You just about get time to mention the team names and because there are 4 in the slot you keep getting them mixed up especially with teams from the same city - moscow, warsaw etc.

Do what the PSP did in Galveston and Youtube the matches.

Get someone like Nicky T to helm the commentary, and he can have guest commentators with him each match.
