Hi

Just wondering about so called outlaw paintball, when a group of players get private land to play and/or practice on. I have just read a thread on uk scenario condemning such things but I don't really see the big problem with it.

Paintball is expensive, golf expensive, and so for a team or otherwise to play in a private area with land owners permission seems ok with me. Most of the time they will still enter comps etc and also will still have to buy equipment so money will still be going into the sport.

Any thoughts and opinions on this matter would be welcome

Thanks

The issue is almost certainly insurance, and the impact on the paintball community should a bystander get hurt beyond the property boundaries. Beyond that, from my short stay here it seems to me like the paintball community is an impressively conscientious lot with a strong awareness of the state of the game. I reckon they'd be upset if they saw players risking the sport's image to save money, rather than just supporting their local walk-ons.

I understand the insurance side, but two things are to be said. 1, Pl insurance could be purchased for the area at a minor cost to say 20 players. 2, if you are playing on private land which has been allocated by the owner for paintballing there should/would be no bystanders to be put at risk. I understand that sites need support but these people would still go to them but prob less frequent. I just feel if this keeps people interested and playing then it could be a good thing.

I am, of course, talking about proper (for want of a better word) paintballers, not just any Joe public.

its not walkons playing like this is aimed at, its training purposes. teams getting ready for tourneys often either dont have the budget to pay a supair site to use the field as regularly as they want, or they have been unable to acquire any sponsorship deal (often there isnt a lot of choice of nearby sites).
so long as a bit of common sense is used and its setup somewhere well out the way theres nothing wrong with it, but the downside is that it usually requires a big favour (i.e. someone lending a supair site) or to spend some serious cash buying a supair site in the first place, so if its money going into the industry in general thats the worry, a few grand on a set of bunkers should correct that :)

True, true. I think most people would rent woodland though as farmers rarely use it, therefore scenario would prob be the most played. I just don't understand all the hate that is directed to people with the se amount of love for the sport as them, mainly from uk scenario forum.

I don't see the problem with this as long as,

1) you have permission off the owner,
2) your not running it as a business
3) insurance shouldn't be required from the players point of view but if a passer by gets hurt then your buggered.
4) NET THE GAME AREA

Its difficult to find private land that doesn't border a public footpath or follow a road. If you were going to do this you would need to net the area off correctly before you got any real support from the paintball community.

SoManc put a supair field on some private land, netted round it and spent a year training on it in 2008.

http://www.ukscenario.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=98&t=20593[/URL]]I love paintball but thats the problem, once of month isnt enough for me. But thats all I can afford. I have heard that you can play for free on private land but I dont have anyone or know anyone who has. So, does anyone know any private land to play free paintball on in the east midlands, UK? or, even better, in leicester. Or a free game locator. (obviously for both bring your own stuff). But if its a locator please check if they are near me, sorry to moan its just I get really excited then die of sadness when I find out the truth about it.

Thanks a lot
Tom
This is most likely the post concerned.

It was asking about places to play for free, not about practice play.

(The practice assumption most likely shows a difference between the UKScenario & P8ntballer communities - P8ntballer players tend to be tournament players. Practice is beneficial to both but essential to a serious tournament player. The question did not refer to such practice)

The responses were not necessarily 'condeming' but recommended against the question itself, and it was in the responses that 'outlaw' was referred to, and as cost was the factor due to the poster only being able to pay to play once a month the various forms of paintball were referred to in case they had only found punter play.

Just because land is private, doesn't mean aren't going to walk their dogs through it or go for s stroll in the summer, hell even camp out and smoke questionable things.
I live in a rural area and we see it all.
An old couple are taking a quiet walk through a field a field, suddenly they hear *DAK DAK DAK* and the old lady gets a couple of paintballs to the side of the head over a hedge.
Not condemning the use of private land, but be sensible, make sure there are signs stating it's private land, don't play next to a road, have a clear boundary, or like it has already been mentioned, net the area.
My ex used to know a couple of blokes who bought some cheap JT or something blowbacks, a case of paint and used to play in their local woods. No masks either...
Luckily no one was hurt, but there was a dogwalker, a phone call to the police and some unpleasantness for the blokes afterwards.
