is it me or does there seem to be no loyalty between teams and sponsors
as every year teams seem to have a new sponsor
this goes both ways as sponsors offer more to certain teams
the only team and sponsor to be loyal to each other is joy and wdp
is this the trend or just down to economics

My view, for what it is worth, is that at the moment it is almost impossible for any team to get true sponsorship - which I define as free gear & guns, cash for entry fees & air travel, and free paint.

Sponsors look for teams that will represent them well and place in events, while usually teams are on the lookout for as much as they can get.

There was a time - for example, with WGP and the Ironmen - when sponsorship agreements were made on a handshake, but those days are long gone.

Perhaps captains of sponsored teams would like to post up and comment why they chose a particular brand? Or perhaps sponsors could post up to say why they choose certain teams?

End of the day Biscuit it is a commercial arrangement, not a social marriage. Both sides look to gain from the deal and this occurs in all sports, not just paintball.

When the original Nexus was formed and we entered our second year, we were sitting atop a support program worth about £150,000 ... sounds a lot and that's because it was; but that figure was made of all areas of support from markers, cash, paint, ancillary products, free training costs etc etc etc ...
We were competing in the NPPL [5 stateside events] plus the Millennium and also a few outside events and so we had one helluva program to fulfill ... I suppose the backbone for all that support was PGi, the magazine I was working with at the time and we managed to underscore all our sponsors with a pretty good exposure in the magazine which for the most part, kept everyone happy.

As for loyalty? - I gave my word to Dave Youngblood from Dye we would use his gear, and going into that second year we were approached from a rival company who offered to pay us double what Dave was giving us ...that was an awful lot of money I can tell ya ... I declined the offer in a heartbeat and thanked the guy for making the offer.

Loyalty pays because when Dave found out [and he found AFTER I had declined the opposing offer] he upped our sponsorship support as a gesture [and he didn't have to do it] and so, loyalty pays in my book ....

Mind you, it came back the other way because we were offered a lot of money to drop Planet as our marker sponsors and that would have meant we increased our total sponsor program by another 45,000 dollars but once again I had given my word to Ledz [who was also a close friend anyway] and kindly declined the new offer immediately ... these figures sound maybe like BS but they are true figures, it's just we have all moved away from those halcyon days of sponsorship into these new days of financial hardship ..

Stay loyal and it will pay dividends, maybe not immediately but people will respect and remember if you are loyal to them.

It's pretty much just business, from a teams view it's what can we get without paying a ton so there costs are to a minimum and for a brand it's who can represent us to give our product a good image. This could increase brand loyalty and retain or increase sales as jo public sees there idols using there equipment

having never competed in the top levels i feel i'll be giving a very narrowminded opinion. from what i've experienced, where most 'sponsorship' for lower end teams competing in local(ish) leagues means a discount on some products, anything other than paint is going to just be a one off purchase and its after that point i can understand why alot of people would feel the need to move onto yet another company. however like most people are saying i personally dont see the reason to move around because any help is much appreciated from my perspective and its worth your while keeping a good relationship with the companies you know will be there to help.

exactly liam. that's the reason we stuck with SP for so long. We got real sponsorship, not support, and that kind of backing deserved our loyalty.

i guess for some people it seems to come down to "how much loyalty can x amount of discount buy".

whatever happens, we as a team feel that our loyalty requires loyalty in return. we talk up products, use them, win stuff, boost sales - in some cases exponentially.

SP for example couldn't meet demands for the SP8 over here for a good few months.
MacDev has gone from minor UK brand to a relatively major well known brand.

if we don't get that loyalty in return, why should we give it back.....?
