50 cal was imported to the UK over 20 years ago, used in 6 shot revolver type paint guns, totally inaccurate so everybody moved onto splat masters and sheridens, to get 50 cal firing straight you would probably need to get it firing at 400fps or higher.
And technology hasn't change since then has it  Funnily enough I still have a Crossman revolver - must try it on the new .50 - knowing my luck it will be too hard on it. .50 cal did indeed seem harder in the old days.

hey guys, wanna hear some new news about my personal 50 cal experience??? had 'winter paint' formula, had assurances from the paint and gun supplier who even said he would come to our little day and have a look at what was going on... Guess what - STILL RUBBISH. STILL 1 out of 10 shots hitting the figure 11 target (a standing man) from about 5 metres. All of the guns went down, out of 10 our gun tech had 5 working by the end of the day. All in all we had a terrible day and again if I had been a paying customer then I would be expecting my money back and would avoid paintball like the plague. My advice is to STAY AWAY FROM 50 CAL! I hate being negative about a sport I am new to and really enjoy. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE has anyone got anything good to say about 50 cal and suggestions for improving my 2 bad days?? except using 68s!!

Let me get this right here manorman .... you are telling us you were only able to hit a 'standing man' target with 1 out of 10 shots from 15 feet?????

And every single one of your ten markers went down????

And who was the guy from the paint and gun supplier who came down to watch your day????

Little bit off topic here but i didn't think it was worth it's own thread.

Why is paint .68 of an inch? it seems a very random number to set for an industry standard.

On topic.

I did notice when i had a go with a nano that the barrel was FAR to big for the paint, i mean the paint could have been quite a bit bigger and still dropped through. How was the size match with yours manorman?

I think it was because the pharmaceutical industry at the time were all set up to make .68 calibre balls because they were originally used for marking trees and so they just changed the usage but stayed with the same equipment and therefore needed no further investment to take advantage of the paintball market.

Its pricey because its a specialist product with a limited production, the more 50 cal takes off the more the price for paint should drop due to the reduction in raw materials per box (atleast thats the theory, lets see if the industry heads in that direction)
