Actually mate it was more like 4 years unbeaten, and anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but when The Preds did 16 straight maxes, wasn't it also done without conceding a single elimination for the entire tourny? Oh and thank you Robbo, you got me now scouring the forum boards for an Automag or a Cocker......curse you Sir :p. I reckon that a woods tourny is long overdue again.........

I've gotta say, I'm quite surprised at the response this thread has provoked.
I always thought it might prove interesting to a few die-hards and for players who had been around since that time but it's kinda heartening to look at the posts a lot of you guys have made.
I know Marcus was really pleased when I showed him this thread with your replies.

I'm not sure how long the Preds went without being beaten because miracles sometimes did happen in that they might lose the occasional game but these instances were extremely rare.

One of the reasons our relationship was so intense was because for about 5 or 6 years, the Preds never beat my team [NWC] in a ten man event, which was the prevalent format at that time.
And we musta played them about 20 or so times in that period, we basically used to play out to a body count result.

They would beat us on eliminations but never returned our flag which I know used to rankle the hell outa Marcus and make him even more determined to try and stuff us but this was just an anomaly really.
I would have much rather win the tournaments like the Preds than have their scalps notched into my marker; winning events is what counted not whether or not they were able to beat one team or another, it just allowed me a glimmer of pride whilst Marcus went round hoovering up the titles :)

I remember the first time we beat them in the finals of an Arenaball game and looking back, I was understandably elated at finally beating the preds to lift the title and while we were waiting to do the prize presentations, Marcus came over to me and whispered in my ear in his normal gruff tone, 'Pete, don't mug me off mate' .....he was basically asking me not to give it the Billy Big 'un and make him and the Preds feel small in any way ... I would never have done that for reasons of respect but I do admit to my insides doing a few somersaults as they handed me the first place trophy ....

As for winning an event with 16 maxes and not losing a body?
I think this would have been an achievement a tad too far even for the Preds and that's crept into the Pred mythology along the way but as far as I know that never happened.

I'm not sure if Marcus has any vids of the Preds but I'm damned sure he has a ton of pics lying around but if you were to pick up any of the old PGis from that era, their pics would have been in there somewhere.

Pete, do I detect more than a twinge of nostalgia beginning to stir the competitive woods ball juices?

Ant, I don't think you can be so involved with a sport for the amount of time myself and Marcus were and of course with the intensity of competition without looking back on it all with some affection.

As for playing again?
Hmmm..... I'm not so sure but I suppose the idea of playing an old firm's game between the Preds and Nam would certainly have an appeal for me but there's be no way we could roll that one out because of the problem in getting all the payers back together again.

Maybe those memories should be left as just those ... memories.

After all, he may finally beat me in a 10 man and I ain't letting him have that one to carve on his headstone, he'll be taking that anomaly to his grave :)

why not just go have a play of some of the scenario game's with marcus and a few of the old boys that are able to get together and make a team for some fun ?

I think you guys would attract alot of players (more than usual) to come out and have a game simply because you guys are there ?

Pete, I totally agree with you mate about looking back on the, as you once referred to them, halcyon days with fondness and good memories. It was a very interesting part of the interview when you aked Marcus if he thought he could have improved on the Preds as a team, and without hesitation he said yes he could have. Then again, the level of competition in the UK maybe wouldn't have been so exciting through the pro ranks. And us younger players, as we were back then, maybe wouldn't have had such great tournament write ups to read about every month........

Ste (Sabrewolf), I really don't think the scenario events would be competitive enough. I know I wouldn't get the same buzz that we ued to get playing down at Kooh Doow, NTF, Congleton and Mick Holdaway's site down Maidenhead

Yep - it's a completely different source of enjoyment.
