Jamie - the best and most standard piece of advice is to try before you buy. You're going to have to spend upwards of £100 to buy something decent so take your time and try as many different types of marker as you possibly can before you buy something.

Many of the markers made and sold in the last 5 years are as competetive as the markers that will be released in the next season. It all comes down to budget and personal preference. For example, i bought a Timmy off here for less than £100, fixed it up and last weekend it out performed another of my markers that cost my £250.

Find something you like.
Buy it second hand.
Read the instruction manual.
Don't try and "improve it" - ie - **** it up!!!

You don't need to spend £100's of pounds on the latest, blingest, most technological marker...

Find your local tournament site. Ask people why they use a particular brand. Be cautious about believeing everything someone tells you and see if you can have a go with it!

As many have said, make sure you buy a good set of "new lensed" goggles be it second hand or brand new, always make sure the lense is new, this is standard before you go buying a paintball marker.

As for a marker, it all depends on what your looking to spend, you can buy markers from £50 up to well over £1000, now im assuming "always a bad thing :p" your not looking to splash that sort of cash and are looking at maybe spending up to £300 ?

If so, you cant go wrong with an EGO 08 or an EGO ETEC, really really reliable, shoot as straight as anything out there, very very efficient and most importantly there is great support for these markers, i.e. parts are easy to get and there is alot of people that can help sort any problems with it.

You can generally pick up a decent second hand one for around £300 or less on these forums.

Jamie, where do you live?

People may be able to help you face to face which is much easier... well, depends where you live and where you can get to/how much time your willing to spend traveling.

to be honest mate a mini is a good marker they have sorted many of the problems with it and the ones i have seen are great but there are beeter markers out there for less and slightly more for example i used to have a proto slg (mistake ) for various reasons i then upgraded to a PMR and am looking into an ego or a ETEK before jumping on the mini have a look online get somone who has shot them advice or as many has said go try and shoot them yourself .

There are x ball fields at bricket wood training grounds, quite a few people are still going even at this time of year. Go to the training sub forum to find out more information about it, or indeed give yorkie (site owner) a ring!
