Hello all I’m a long time lurker looking to get into the sport and if it’s alright I’ve got a few quick questions.

First of all clothing and protection
I’ve got an I4 mask but I was wondering just how much extra padding and clothing equipment do you need to play.
Is it worth going out and buying a jersey and pants and are you supposed to wear a disruption jersey under the normal one, also are knee and elbow pads necessary or do paintball pants and jerseys come with enough protection?
Are gloves a good idea or do they just make it harder to walk the trigger?
Basically is it worth me going out and covering myself with every piece of clothing available or am I not really going to feel much difference in terms of getting pelted by paintballs.

And finally does anyone know how you go about buying some of the more obscure coloured egos made by vicious, things like the regal or trooper just look gorgeous but I can’t find anywhere that sells them.
They crop up from time to time in the classified ads but I can’t actually find any on the eclipse website.

Any advice anyone can give would be much appreciated.
All the best

In terms of the ego you might as well wait for the ego 11 as it comes in both colours stated, and as for wearing a disruption heresy under a normal jersey there's no need to you only need to wear 1 jersey. Knee pads are a definite yes (as I have found ou the hard way) and elbow pads are also a good thing to have, especially if your going to be diving all over the place. Gloves you can get half finger, gauntlet, or two finger gloves giving protection to your hands whilst letting your fingers move more freely allowing you to walk the trigger.

Hope this helps

Well I'd say knee and elbow pads are must for all the diving you will be doing.

By disruption jersey I assume you are talking about the bounce vest made by planet? I had one, and thought it was awesome just an absolute pain to get off once you had been sweating. I don't wear one anymore just because after a while it doesn't hurt as much getting shot anymore.

As far as i'm aware the only place to get a new vicious Ego would be over the pond in the states, which would incur import tax & VAT on top of your retail price if your heart is set on a Vicious Ego,unles you can find a used one on PBN and are prepared to gamble with your cash.
But as it's been stated in the above post, maybe it's best to wait until the Ego11 goes on sale.

Knee and elbow pads are really down to personal preference but bare in mind some playing pants do already come with good knee protection built in as do some playing tops also with regard to elbow protection. If your type of player that dives into bunkers or plays the smaller style bunkers on the field that require you to get low and tight behind them then your knees will take the brunt.

Pads or pain

As already said wait for the ego 11 m8
And as for protection i would recomend getting knee and elbow pads for any type of paintball (woods or tournement) because if you play woods and manage to kneel or lean on a sharp stone or tree root you will be surprised how much it hurts evan without jumping and if you do jump or slide on to one without pads get ready for the pain:eek:
With tournements because you usualy play on nice flat grass or astroturf you will find yourself trying all sorts of mad moves so they are still a good idea, also maybe think about a pair of slide shorts for the above reasons.
A protector vest in my opinion is not as inportant as the other bits and like others said it hurts less the more you play but i still wear one for tournie ball as you seem to get lit up a bit more to make sure you cant cheat and wipe off:tsk:, i woud'nt bother with one when playing woods though.
Good luck and happy ballin m8

Most jerseys and trousers will have a decent amount of padding, and you could play without - BUT - you run the risk of injury - not from balling, but from scraping or banging knees and (to a lesser extent) elbows when diving around. I never play without knee pads, elbow pads and a pair of slide shorts with a sports cup. A vest is worth consideration - I sometime play with, sometimes without - but it does cut down on the bruises, and my ex always insisted I wear one, as she hated me coming home with bruises. After that, something that protects the forehead is worthwhile. Gloves are, again, a personal preference. I hate wearing them, but others will not play without. A good compromise is a jersey that has thumb holes, which leave the fingers totally free, but give protection to the back of the hand..
