I've just bought a stock Ion and would like to know what people recommend as good value essential (and non essential upgrades) I and if you have them for sale let me know.

I've heard that a QEV is required to stop potential FSDO.
CCM feed neck
Decent trigger

Whats the stock vert like, am I best getting something like a CP vert (are the threads the same)

Would buying a new trigger frame be a waste and new body (I've seen a nice shocktech one on here which allows access to the back of the gun, but I don't understand the importance of that)

What about bolts and boards?

Any input would be appriciated.

is it an ion or the newer xe model if just a bone stock an aftermarket body will help with cleaning as it will be a bolt out-back design, also i love the firebolt in both of mine and my vibe another good upgrade is the dye reg (cant remember which one i got) but it is great with high rates of fire with no lose in consistency, trigger wise i recomend the cp roller trigger, as said berfore on here definatly a clamping feedneck hope this helps any questions drop me a pm

Rob,

Original plastic trigger is a bit pants. No bearing at pivot and sloppy side to side fit in frame. Lots of options out there for not a lot of £££, and I've used Warped, NDZ wave and Violent Series delrin triggers, and all were a big improvement on stock. A cocker threaded breech opens up a lot of possibilities barrel-wise. Magnetic kila detents are a huge improvement on rubber SP ones.

Boards like Blackheart, Virtue, Lucky or 7th element (had them all), and again much better than stock. Easier to adjust on the fly with more options than stock ION. Clamping feedeck and decent OOPS is a must have, and although not bad the SP inline reg is bettered by CP or Dye hyper 2 in my opinion. A lighter high flow bolt cuts down on kick, and lets you reduce dwell for better efficiency, and I've tried Deadlywind, TechT, SP firebolt, NDZ skeleton and Orange Nano so far. A QEV helps speed up cycle time - but not such a critical upgrade TBH.

Good forum here - helped me out lots with parts and advice. http://www.ionowners.com/

Sold most of mine now but still have a couple in the collection.

The Mil-sim is a work in progress - metal body with weavers all over, CCM reg, Virtue etc.. Need to sort an ASA, but may end up running remote with a T-stock. Also plan to make an underslung box loader, mounted below body using Halo parts...

..and this is a Sith 15 degree frame and Lucky 5.1 body BOB kit - takes cocker barrels. 7th element board + Laser eyes, Dye hyper 2 reg, Angel ASA and SPD grip panels.

To be fair Rob there is't much SP or Ion stuff in it

The only stock parts are the internal hoses, banjo's and pressure gauge
