Heya,

I'm about to make my first purchase....a mask, and I've been looking at the Dye i4s (I know pricey, but I have a small head and I really dig the weight+field of vision aspect).

I was thinking of getting the black/gold but they seem to come with "Dye dytanium" lenses that appear to be mirrored instead of the yellow "thermal" lenses on most of the other models. I'm afraid these might be too dark when playing indoors, does anyone know what the difference is, if any?

Thanks for any help.

Hi mate.

I think all i4 lenses are thermal so it's just a personal choice. I can't comment on the dyetanium lenses specifically but here is a guide:

mirrored lenses : very dark
blue/yellow lenses: block out White light but hardly dim
smoke lenses : darker but not as dark as mirrored lenses.
Clear lenses: great for days which aren't too bright. Best choice for indoor play.

I would imagine, If like you say the dyetanium lense is mirrored then it will probably be too dim for indoor use :(
however, you could get them and I'm sure someone would take the lense of your hands for enough to buy another lense.

Perfect answer mate. Thanks heaps. I was hoping you'd say mirrored were fine indoors, but I knew it was wishful thinking. Ha!

i4s normally come with the HD lense, which is a burnt yellow. The Dyetanium lense is great for sunny days, but I struggle to see what im shooting at when I play indoors. I normally use the Yellow lense for indoors because it slightly improves the visible light making it a little easier to see what your shooting :)

All i4 lenses are thermal, but the Dyetanium does look sweet :D

Is that the i4 in your photo? I was tempted to get the black and white, but have read you get reflections of the white rim up in the inside of the lens - like some kind of annoying white HUD. Did you find that's true?

I think I'll just have to buy the yellow thermal lens as well. I'm sure i will find an appropriate moment to use both at one stage or another.

Hey buddy,

Get yourself down to Campaign Cup in Basildon, 2nd - 4th july, the DYE stall will be there and you can have a good look at then, try them on and see all the diff lenses. Chances are if you ask nicley they will swap out lenses to you can see what they look like with the goggs, and you can see the diff colours and see which combination of lens and goggle colour you prefer.

By the way, i love my i4's :)

That's a great suggestion, though I'm not sure I can wait that long and I don't know if I can make it on those dates. Is there anywhere in London that sells paintball gear from a physical store where I can go and try stuff out?

Loving all the info cheers everyone.
