Its a replacement lid for your loader so you dont have to pop the lid, fill then shut again. You just dump your paint on it and the weight of the paint opens it up.

Like everyone has said you don't need one it just makes loading faster, if you do get one remember to put the normal lid back on if you're playing in the rain.

i'd usually say for scenario games where quick reloading isnt essential - and where there's usually a lot of mud - go with the lid, can usually make sure you drop minimal of paint, and keeps any rain/mud out. if playing on the xball field go with a speedfeed, you might lose a few balls but its a worthwhile trade off for faster reloading.

btw if you are unlucky enough to get shot on the speedfeed it can make a mess of your loader/paint, sucks having to clean it out before you can really use it again! thats rare though :p

My own experience of speed feeds is a bad one, I don't play much tourney where they're apparently useful but even then they have their setbacks. Firstly poorer speed feeds will lose you a few balls (5-10 or so) each time you reload as they'll just roll off and not go in. Watch a still of a breakout and see the paint fly, moving the gun quickly in a direction gravity doesn't favour will cause some paint to fall out, especially if the speed feeds a little old and saggy. If it is old and saggy it can also lower your hoppers capacity by 20 odd balls just by the tips being in the way.

On the bright side it makes your reloading a little quicker, each to their own, the best way to decide is have your own experiences with them. Mine were obviously bad, but make your own decision.
