I don't think there's any excuse these days for a fogged up mask, thats just scrimping on the part of the site owner.

As for the bruising, thats simply down to really cheap paint. From a site owners point of view, it's not as simple as £1 difference between boxes, it's a pallets worth, or 2, or 4 which can soon mount up into a difference of £500 per order.

I've had a site open for just over 2 years now, NOT ONCE has anyone walked out the gates saying it was too sore for them, and we chrono our guns 260-280. If we had a mask which fogged up it was on the coldest of frosty days, on a big fat sweaty hairy person. Even then we switch the mask or the lens.

Anyone having a good day will tell 5 other people, anyone having a bad day will tell anyone and everyone they can find.

I doubt this will do damage, but i do reckon in the not too distant future, paying customers will become much more savvy about their day out. At them minute the vast majority just take it as given that paintballs don't shoot even close to straight, that masks can fog up.

It won't be too long until the average joe is asking for a refund because the service some sites provide is by sub standard by any measure.

If you don't like the sting then play lasertag.

A big part of paintball is knowing it will sting if it hits you, what some people expect when they go I will never know.

This is a major part of it, and it brings around so many more problems at sites aswel. rental sites keep paintball going for millions of reasons as you all know, but cheap and nasty goggles that steam can ruin a persons day, and considering the amount someones spends on a day is like on avergae £30-£40 per person people want there monies worth and not bieng able to see nothing but fog the whole day is a nightmare, where i work say 70% of the time goggle lifters are a results of steamed goggles, and people get @rsey at you becuase they cant take them off to clean on the field, and i can se why they get p!ssed off.

better invesment in equipment like better goggles would imporve sites and peoples experiences of paintball, and would stop alot of google lifts, the last thing people want is someone being blinded becuase of steamed goggles!

as for the pain, people who are scared of the pain wouldnt go play paintball anyway, and the guy in this article seems like a maoner anyway :D ive seen everyone deomgraphic play paintball from old ladies to tiny kids and they all love it!!

I have to concur, he does look and sound a little soft...

Personally, I've been paintballing twice, both times had fogged/scratched goggles, could hardly see a thing, got some massive bruises that hurt like ****, on a couple of games got guns that didn't fire/multi-fired, etc.

Absolutely loved it!

Which is why I'm now buying my own kit so I can get an even better experience!

Thats what I did, played twice, bought my own goggles, played 2 more times and thought "wonder what its like with people who know what they are doing?" and 10+ yrs later Ive travelled Europe, played against all my peers (and lost!) won some decent games, and lost some shockers! Have no idea what happened to this guy to make him have such a bad time!

I've been just 4 times and my first piece of kit (mask) is in the post, due tomorrow hopefully, woot!

He's totally soft and the beauty of it - as far as tainting the game is concerned - is that he sounds it. I'd say he sounds it even to non-paintballers. So people probably won't be put off by this.

In fact, it's just an opinion piece and despite the fact he didn't like it it's probably more likely to get people talking about it than solidifying any thoughts of never doing it.

No publicity is bad publicity eh? ;)

From my marshalling experience, what i've tended to find is that there are the odd people that start the day off hating it. Part of it is, like others have said, they have been told so much about it hurting, that they are playing up to that. However the turning point in their day seems to be when they get involved more, start shooting back, and enjoying the game scenerios a bit more. I've had one girl who was in tears in the first round, by the end of the day she was loving it and high fiving us on the way out. The writer of the article didn't seem like he wanted to give it much of a chance after that first shot. Generally though we have to accept, some people just don't consider anything involving pain as their idea of fun. Difficult to turn these people. But i think the article did a good job of making him out to be a tart.
