Hello all,

I am totally new into the world of Paintball. I really love this sport since ever the first I have tried it (6 months ago). As I have always been looking for a hobby I believe that I have just found it. I am about to get my own gear now and I will need your help!! Also I have a friend that runs a paintball business with low quality equipment and it's time to replace it! Since he is not an internet user I was asked to help him on this if possible and find out what's best. So..

1. Markers
I have seen that there are a lot out there. I would really like to get a more realistic-looking marker, something like this

What do you think of this kind of markers?

2. Gas Tanks
Upon getting the above marker, I have two options. To get a few small 4oz tanks (these do not require the remote hose, they can fit directly to the marker) or to get one 12oz tank which is of course heavy and should be used with the remote hose. In this case the gas tank needs to be carried within a pouch on a belt or even a pouch of a vest. What do you think about this? Is this a barrier in flexibility in the field? Your thoughts please?

3. Vest
I have noticed that I can either get a vest with built-in pouches or I can get a belt, a few pouches and adjust according to my needs. What do you think about this? Which type would you go with?

thanks in advance!

welcome to the forum

First do you have a mask? this is the most important thing
I recommend you do is use HPA not Co2, they may be more expensive but well worth it.
You may like milsim now but that could change when you see how much better the other guns are.
That A5 would probably cost you £250+ and you could get alot better markers for that price.

when your new its really confusing, i would take a look at this video

Hi

If you are more of a scenario player you may find getting kit from UKScenario a good idea.

As mentioned above getting a nice comfortable mask is always a good starting point.

Set yourself a budget for you kit then post up a wanted thread in UKScenario.

Regarding your questions above :

Scenario markers tend to be a lot larger, heavier and less gas efficient (you will get less shots from an air fill) than a tournament style marker. Markers like the TM7 are a great improvement though so you can get a good performing marker with the ' real ' looks too.

I would run HPA ( High Pressure Air ) over CO2 any day. It will be more expensive to start with but it is a better propellant with far fewer draw backs.

Tac vests are a personal choice. When I play scenario I use a regular Proto pack, it carrys my paint just as well as a tac vest. If you are able to shoot 9+ pots a tac vest is a more comfortable solution as it spreads the load of all that paint out a bit. Many also have the ability to carry an air system so you can run a remote and added extras like a camelbak.

Any more questions feel free to fire away.

Regards

Ed

Hello there,

Thanks for your response. I will get a mask also!

so, milsim are only good for simulating the real thing, but they are not as enjoyable as the standard paintball guns, is that what you mean? (really, that's the point of my post, to see whether I am missing something with these type of guns).

In regards to the standard paintball makers, which ones are the world's top ?

thanks,
Giorgoc

there are also proto and planet eclipse etek markers both are still good but without as hefty price tag. it all really depends on your budget. you can get cheaper markers that will perform nearly aswell as top end markers.

probably best thing would be to post up your budget. so we can give you the best advice for what you have got to spend. as this could cost from about £300 - £1500 to get you out there playing.

Thanks for your time!

Well, from another point of view, I am looking to get a quote for full gear for a new business. I will need at least gear for 25 people (approximately 16-18 will play simultaneously but I will like to have the additional gear ready for instant replacement when needed).

For this, I am looking for a good-quality gear (meaning that it should not break by extensive use in the field). I will need of course Masks, Gas Tanks, Loaders, Markers and of course paintball holders, vests (or belts with pouches).

Budget.. well, good question! I am in the process of setting up my business plan at the moment so I will need your suggestion (i.e. on how to spend on this part of the business). I don't want to be that expensive (at least for the beginning) but as already said, something that it will not require replacement during the first months!

Any suppliers (or even manufacturers) that you would recommend? (or if any here the forum please contact me).

thank you,
George

Get yourself 3 of these - http://www.store.justpaintball.co.uk/trade-packs/full-trade-bulk-setup-10-player-set.html

Might be able to get these at diff prices etc, elsewhere but thats just the basis of what you need.

Obviously you will need a lot of other things, marshall clothing, chrono's and a load more 100 shot pods etc... And someway of filling the air/co2 bottles.

--

Edit: Also, you will probs want to use air instead of CO2, more expensive to start up, but worth it in the long run.

Looks really nice thank you!!

How about the parts of this package? Are they good quality? How about the brand of the markers? Masks? I just don't want to be excited about the package but end-up with poor quality items.

Are these markers, loaders, masks, etc, really reliable?

If yes, the price looks very nice to me!

thank you,
George

To be honest, with paintball, the more you pay, the better quality.

At sites and commercial businesses where you pay to rent equipment, the equipment will be of bad and very cheap quality. So it all depends on how much the owner wants to pay to start up. (bear in mind the punters aren't going to notice the quality as they have nothing to compare it against).

So, from the owners point of view, they want to look for stuff that is easy to maintain and fix, and is rather cheap. Best markers to look for in that area are inferno markers, Bt's (like the ones in the package xdansomee pointed out) or tippmanns.
Goggle wise, JT do alot of good site goggles and most sites use JT's.
Hopper wise, a site owner will just want to use a cheap grav-fed hopper.

If you wanted to go for full on good quality stuff, you'll end up paying maybe £500 per setup. Whereas you could get setups for as little as £100.
The problem with the setup xdansomee has posted is that theres more than just that to setting up a site. You need chronographs, nettings, stuff for marshalls, land, etc. etc, the list goes on.

Oh and 'so, milsim are only good for simulating the real thing, but they are not as enjoyable as the standard paintball guns, is that what you mean?' No thats not what he means. Paintball is just as enjoyable no matter how good the gear is (unless you just plain suck :p) but £250 spent on scenario style markers would roughly equal £150 in sup'air/speedball kind of markers. Ie, speedball markers will have better performance but scenario markers will look cool.
