Now that the X-Ball format is upon us and that many British players have witnessed an X-Ball game in either the Lisbon or Germany leg of the Millenium Series I ask this question:

If a tournament was set up in the UK in the X-Ball format with the X-Ball rules would it work and would teams be up for it?

I appreciate that it would be difficult to organize but after hearing so many players complain because it is out of reach of the average team and that they would love to play X-Ball I just wondered if the idea was worth thinking about.............

Is X-Ball only worth watching between International sides or top Pros or could the top divisions of the Midland Masters, Series 2003 and M25 League pull it off?

just interested in what the nation thinks......

Its aewsome

I'd like to see everyone be able to try it - just needs to be done at the right time and in the right format - otherwise we'd get whats happenning in the NXL - disaffection!!

Too many teams would want to enter, and seeing as the game time is a lot longer this could cause problems.......

Perhaps we should have a

Northern Team
Midlands Team
Southern Team
Welsh Team
Scottish Team

Etc......

How about this?

A local place that has never tried paintball is setting up a six-week, weekday league. 5-Man center flag, 60'x30" artificial turf field, concept bunkers, 60 minutes per night between two teams, as many games as you can get in. The hope is enough sign up to run different leagues based on experience (beginner, novice, advanced).

Now this is like a bowling league kinda' thing: No real prizes, BYOP, low key fun. They know nothing of paintball really (I want to play it, so I asked some questions and am now helping as a consultant) and never heard of X-Ball.

But this is basically like X-Ball in many ways. You can set up the same constraints, and then let two teams beat on each other for an hour. I am really curious to see how things develop over the course of the league. Who will learn what? I don't know if the field layout will change week to week yet (it may be up to me, actually, and I am more inclined to say yes to keep it fresh).

Anybody with a field and the time could try it. In any case, it's good tourney practice and should keep you sharp. I wish more fields would run leagues.

(Also, looking for small prizes to help sweeten it for teams!)

XBall in the UK? yeah i'd want to play it!

Currently the theory is that it would be too expensive for most teams to play, to that i say tough, if you want to play cough up the coin. who cares if only the best, most sponsored teams get to play XBall, thats the whole idea, it gives players at lower levels something to aim for.

At the moment we're playing S2K3 and MM and we're playing the same teams every tourney anyway so why not change it to a league format ala NXL?

i think a good start would be what Burb suggested, something like the Nations cup but for Regional teams, maybe set it up so that teams represent citys e.g. Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, London. any organisers out there willing to try it?

The expense of the paint will keep the number of teams manageable, Burb.

The college guys at WC2002 weren't much fun to watch. It takes some skills to make an endless series of five man matches entertaining. Maybe if I had something at stake, it would've been more entertaining, but these teams were a bore.

Maybe this is the way for th UK to beat the snot out of the US? Play that much five man and you will try every permutation there is in a few weeks. Not the ideal way to train, but if you have the paint...
